2-Year French Language Course for Academically-Able Students (Grades 7-11)
LEAF: Cours de Langue pour Etudiants Avancés de Français:
LEAF is an accelerated French language program tailored to teach students a four-year French curriculum over the course of just two years. After completion, students will be equipped to complete the French Language Advanced Placement Exam. LEAF is open to students in grades 7-11. If a school does not offer a French program or a student wants to take the AP exam but is too old to start, LEAF provides an opportunity for language acquisition.
Michigan State University professors teach classes weekly beginning at the start of the academic year. The program will run after school from 3:30-6:30pm. In addition to class time, voluntary labs will take place on Sundays so students can receive extra assistance and have a chance to finish homework.
All students will take an assessment after the first year of classes to ensure they are prepared for the second year of programming. After students have completed the course, they will be prepared to take the French Advanced Placement exam or take dual enrollment classes at their local university or community college.
LEAF counts toward the Michigan Educational Requirement that students take at least two years of a foreign language. Students will benefit from small classes and individualized attention from MSU professors and assistants.
