Students can choose between Modern Standard Arabic (MSA) or Colloquial Moroccan Arabic (CMA). The standard program is three hours a day / 15 hours per week. More intensive hours can also be arranged. Our program caters to all language levels. All of our instructors have university degrees in the teaching of MSA and CMA Arabic.
A strong emphasis on culture is desired with guided tours and interaction with people of Morocco. Participants will receive up to 10 classroom hours of cultural exposure each week to include the introductory Arabic instruction. The institute offers language exchange opportunities while interacting with young Moroccans who study English.
Modern Standard Arabic (MSA)
Modern Standard Arabic (MSA) is the written language of Arabic. In its classical form it is the language of the Holy Koran. In its everyday use it is the language of newspapers and is also widely heard on radio and television. MSA is a 'used living' language used by educated people and intellectuals. Lessons are usually held 9:00 am-noon .18 Hours per week, Monday to Saturday. Length of program 3 or 4 weeks in length. Class size is max.10 students.
The students begin to understand and to speak the Arabic language as soon as possible accompanied by a solid learning method, with a grammatical base developed within a communicative context. Our method is designed specially for foreign students and we emphasize communication by using much interaction. Covering all aspects of language learning (speaking, listening, writing and reading skills), our high-quality Arabic programs are specially designed for foreign students and are taught in English.
Text books and Methods used are: Alif Baa, Al Kitaab Fi Taalim al Arabiyya with audiovisual CDs plus additional materials. The method is a combination of the functional and communicative approaches, computer CDs on how to read, write and speak Arabic.

AUI is located in Ifrane, Morocco in the Middle Atlas Mountains, at an altitude of 1,600m. A diligent student, willing to devote himself to preparing and attending the full morning of classes, and then completing homework assignments, can realistically hope to achieve one full academic year of Arabic language by successfully completing the summer program. Students experience learning Arabic not only in class and through homework, but also through interaction with students, instructors and staff at the university as well as others outside the university in the community of Ifrane.
