12 Month Diploma:
MMS has been specialising in music technology and sound engineering courses for 14 years. The 12 month Diploma Course incorporates 2 modules. The 9 month Music Construction and Production Diploma (Module 1) is an extremely practical course designed for those wanting to master every element of the modern recording studio and produce music of a professional standard. The focus of this module is the creation and production of your own music, technical support and guidance is available at all times, to help you achieve the sound you are looking for.
9 Month Diploma:
The 9 month Music Construction and Production Diploma Course ('Module 1') is an extremely practical course designed for those wanting to master every element of the modern recording studio and produce music of a professional standard. The focus of this module is the creation and production of your own music. One on one tech support and guidance is available at all times, to help you achieve the sound you are looking for.
Free Taster Course:
This course is suitable for total beginners and provides a concise and intensive overview of music programming, writing and production. If you are intrigued about what goes into making the music that moves you, or are considering enrolling on one of our longer course, this is an ideal opportunity to check out the School's facilities and learn from our head tutor. Taster Courses run regularly on Saturday's from 12pm till 4pm.
Dance Music Production:
This short programme is an ideal option for home studio owners, budding DJ Producers and people just driven by music. It provides a concise and intensive overview of producing dance music, from learning to make beats, to the full writing and mixdown process. Each person will work towards creating and mixing a track with the ideas, samples and music that have inspired them. This forms the basis for teaching each person about the equipment and what is relevant to them, be it working hip hop samples into a track or programming virtual drum machines. These are informal and relaxed working sessions where time is taken out at regular intervals to explain each stage in the construction of a track, demonstrating the techniques for producing dance music, whatever the style.
Logic 101:
Our concise Apple Certified Logic Pro Course runs over either three days for the Apple 101 Qualification / or as a weekend crash course for those that prefer. With our Logic training, you learn to create a song using the comprehensive array of software instruments, Apple Loops and DSP effects included in Logic Pro. In depth lessons will cover MIDI and audio recording, streamlined editing and arrangement techniques, user defined key commands, automation, scoring to picture and surround mixing.
Bassment DJ Course:
The Bassment DJ course can be taken in two forms.
- Part Time - A 10 week course consisting of one 4 hour lecture per week. Class of maximum, 10 students
- Full Time - A 5 day course taught on a one to one basis. 4 hour lessons and unlimited studio time.
This course, aimed at beginner and intermediate DJs, is taught in our DJ suites equipped with the latest Numark, Allen&Heath, Pioneer, Stanton and Kam equipment. Alongside the hardware setups, we have computer workstations running the latest digital DJ solutions including Ableton Live, Serato Scratch Live/Serato Itch, and Tracktor Scratch Pro. As part of this course individual studio time is available to all 7 days a week... so you learn to dj at your own pace in between the weekly classes.
Weekend DJ Taster:
This beginner DJ course requires no previous mixing ability. The aim of the day is getting started on the decks and learning effective mixing techniques. The programme is for entry level DJs seeking to learn key skills and/or polish up existing skills. Students learn with Stanton turntables housed alongside Pioneer CDJ1000 units. A selection of effects units and samplers are also on hand to encourage the creative manipulation of sound.
Ableton Live:
With an ever increasing demand from people to learn Ableton Live - the biggest development in production/DJ technology in years - we created a pair of one stop weekend crash course built to meet the growing creative ideas of today's music producers, performers and DJs. Our Ableton Live training will show you how this revolutionary programme is designed for making original music, just like any other computer sequencer package, but is capable of so much more... Learn Ableton Live to remix a track to your taste using its intuitive features, or create mixes of your music on the fly because it syncs up MIDI and audio automatically, in real time!
Dance Music Business:
The Dance Music Business Course at Manchester Midi School was set up to offer a clear behind the scenes view of how the wheels and cogs of the music business turn - steering the participants in the right direction whatever their personal aims might be. This personally tailored Music Business Course, running over two sessions, gives practical and detailed advice on how to get started in the music business and how to proceed with a variety of projects, from running a club night, all the way through to understanding how to set up a record label, highlighting successes and warning of some pitfalls that may lay ahead.
Scratch Lab:
The Scratch Lab is taught on a one-to-one basis, due to the intricate nature of these DJ skills. You will be given the opportunity to gain key DJ scratching and turntablism techniques, at your level, from beginner to pro standard. The tricks of the trade such as the 'Flair' and the 'Crab' are broken down into simple steps, clearly explained and demonstrated by our professional Turntablist. In addition you will pick up the essential new technical knowledge needed as DJ scratching 'goes digital' with Serato Scratch Live.
1 on 1 Training:
MMS provides certified training, on-site, in any aspect of Music production and DJing. Whether you are a complete beginner who would prefer to study in a one on one environment, or you are a seasoned producer who needs help with specific topics, our one on one training can be tailored to suit your needs. One on one training allows you to learn at your own pace, in an informal environment. It can be arranged around your timetable - our certified tutors are available 10am-10pm, 7 days per week.
