Lake House Academy:
Located in Flat Rock (near Asheville), North Carolina, Lake House Academy is a private, therapeutic boarding school for girls ages 10 through 14. A Lake House girl is typically struggling at home and academically with a number of behaviors, such as: Immaturity, Inability to Control Anger, Defiance Toward Parents, Tantrums, Lack of Respect, Inability to Adhere to Rules or Limits, and more. Programs are tailored to the developmental, social, emotional and academic needs of pre-adolescent and young adolescent girls with a focus on helping girls gain the skills they need to be successful in the home, at school and with friends.
To provide an exceptionally, high quality therapeutic and academic environment that allows young girls to reconnect with their families, establish academic success, and gain the interpersonal skills to discover their true selves… and thrive as young, healthy girls.
Lake House Academy is designed for girls who are 10 to 14 years of age upon enrollment. A Lake House girl is typically struggling at home and academically with a number of behaviors, such as:
- Inability to Control Anger
- Defiance Toward Parents
- Easily Influenced by Others (diminished sense of self)
- Difficulty Picking Up on Social Cues
- Trouble Making and/or Keeping Friends
- Inability to Adhere to Rules or Limits
- Emotionally Shutting Down or Withdrawing
- School Refusal
- Loss of Interest/Participation in Previously Enjoyed Activities
- Difficulty Maintaining Grade Level Performance at School
- Lack of Respect
She may have been diagnosed with:
- Asperger’s Syndrome
- Mood Disorder
- Attention Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder
- Bi-Polar Disorder
- Non-Verbal Learning Disability
- Obsessive Compulsive Disorder
- Oppositional Defiant Disorder
- School and/or Social Phobias
The students will work through a goal guided, developmental model. The model consists of 3 phases of “levels” to reinforce gaining new skills and tools that aid them in relationships, academics, personal development, conflict resolution, self-advocacy, integrity and respect.
The girls learn to take care of their own personal needs as well as the needs of the home, giving them a sense of responsibility for their environment, and respect for their community.
They follow a typical academic schedule with a teacher to student ratio that allows each student to get support and attention in the classroom that will ensure their individual success. The girls have the opportunity to participate in a variety of extra-curricular activity and team sports, including soccer, cross-country, basketball, volleyball, and tennis.
