Faculdade de Economia da Universidade Nova de Lisboa:
Founded in 1978, the Faculdade de Economia of the Universidade Nova de Lisboa leads Portugal in teaching and research in the areas of Economics and Business Administration. The success of the School can be easily traced to some of its distinctive features, namely: quality of research, internationalization, student advising, and customized - though demanding curricula. The EQUIS certification, awarded by the European Foundation for Management Development, guarantees the School's quality in teaching, research, internationalization and relations with the corporate world. In 2005 the excellence of our MBA program was once more internationally recognized, when it achieved the AMBA accreditation, awarded by the Association of MBAs.
Undergraduate Degree in Economics
More than 3500 graduates from NOVA, incorporated in the most diverse sectors of economic activity, be it in Portugal, or abroad. Today, they are the irrefutable proof of the high quality and innovative character of NOVA’s undergraduate degree in economics.
These and other factors have contributed to ensure that the undergraduate degree in economics at NOVA obtained the highest classification in the official, national evaluations conducted by the Fundação das Universidades Portuguesas (Foundation of Portuguese Universities), who highlighted the strict entry conditions and the quality of the School’s faculty.
Solid training - The undergraduate degree in economics is founded on a selection of core courses that permit a solid education in economics, in management and in quantitative methods. This enables students to develop a balanced foundation in technical and scientific knowledge. Students also receive a general education in related areas, such as law and social sciences among others, also allowing students to study other courses at other schools of the Universidade Nova de Lisboa.
International education - One of the ways of developing students’ international perspective is through the internationalization requirement. This requirement can be achieved by taking part in an exchange program at a foreign university through one of the School’s existing protocols, or by conducting an internship at a company abroad, or by participating in previously authorized courses offered by foreign universities, or by approval in disciplines offered at NOVA that have a strong international content.
An education that prepares students for the corporate world - We believe in the success of our graduates in adapting to diverse professional situations. For this to happen, we give special emphasis to perfecting students’ analytical capacities, communication skills and ability to work in teams, through the provision of modules to develop personal and group competencies.
Undergraduate Degree in Management
An integrated vision of management - The innovative curricular structure of the undergraduate degree in management, created in 1995, seeks to train young graduates providing an integrated perspective of management in diverse functional areas such as finance, marketing, strategy, operations and organizational behavior, combined with a solid base in economics and quantitative methods.
The development of a complete perspective and an articulation between the diverse areas of management through various curricular innovations such as the course “Introdução à Empresa” (introduction to the firm), offered in the first year, are designed to offer a complete perspective of the company and introduce in an applied way, the different areas of functional decision-making. The module “Jogo de Empresa” (company game), at the end of the undergraduate program, consists of a management simulation game, to accentuate the complementarities of the diverse areas, as well as the difficulties and the challenges presented by their integration.
Internationalization - The undergraduate program in management applies an international vision of management to the Portuguese business reality.
Similar to the undergraduate degree in economics, the students’ international perspective is a requirement that can be satisfied protected from be satisfied by taking part in an exchange program at a foreign university through one of the School’s existing protocols, or by conducting an internship at a company abroad, or by participating in previously authorized courses offered by foreign universities, or by approval in disciplines offered at NOVA that have a strong international content.
