Qingdao Amerasia International School (QAIS) aims to inspire a lifelong love of learning through a holistic, child-centered, inquiry-based approach. Qingdao Amerasia International School provides student-centered education for international families in Qingdao. 

We believe that the hands-on, interdisciplinary approach fostered by Montessori and International Baccalaureate methods is essential for students to develop the knowledge and skills needed for life in the 21st century. Curriculum:

Qingdao Amerasia offers the International School International Baccalaureate (IB) Primary Years Programme and Diploma Programme. We are also a candidate for IB authorization for the Middle Years program.

With the first programs in Asia to be accredited by the American Montessori Society, our Montessori Children's House is a flagship center of Montessori education on the world's largest continent. Children in our multi-age classrooms develop skills and understanding, as well as independence and concentration, by choosing work that meets their particular developmental needs. All of our Montessori classrooms are fully stocked with imported didactic materials.

The IB Primary Years Programme helps children to further develop as inquirers, building their ability to formulate questions and take appropriate action. Children in every PYP class (including Montessori Early Childhood) do 6 units of inquiry each year, in the themes of Who We Are, Where We Are in Place and Time, How the World Works, Sharing the Planet, How We Organize Ourselves, and How We Express Ourselves. Within each unit, the class addresses a central idea which is relevant to children's own experience, allowing them to use their own interests as the vehicle to new understanding.

All MYP students have daily classes in Language Arts (English or Chinese), Math, Science, Social Science, and Acquired Language, as well as Music, Art, Technology, and PE two or three times per week.

All QAIS staff have a minimum of a Bachelor's Degree and a foreign certification to teach their subject area at the appropriate level. All K-12 teachers are IB-certified in their subject or grade; most also have a Master's degree. All Montessori classes are led by a credentialed, certified Montessori (AMS or AMI) teacher.

Excellent Facilities:

QAIS has a newly-built campus in Qingdao's Laoshan District, a popular area for expats to live, shop, and play. Within ten minutes' drive of most of the city's international-standard housing. The school has spacious and bright classrooms, a beautiful library, computer labs, an indoor sports hall, an outdoor full sized football/soccer field with track field, a cafeteria, science labs, an auditorium, a black box theater, a green room and a complete arts department. We are also the only school in the region to have a centralized, state of the art, air purification system throughout our whole school, assuring healthy air for all our students, every moment of the day.

School Year & School Day:
The school year includes at least 180 days of instruction, from late August to late June. QAIS breaks for China National Day/
autumn break(1 week), Christmas (2 weeks), Chinese New Year (2 weeks), and Spring break(1 week). The school day lasts from 8:15 am to 3:15 pm.
