Moreton Hall Prep School:
Located in Bury St Edmunds in the south-east of England, Moreton Hall Prep School is a co-educational, private, junior school for boys and girls from Nursery through to Prep school (ages 3-13), offering boarding (ages 8-13) and day facilities (ages 3-13). Our small school size but spacious surroundings allow us to look after each boy or girl as an individual in an environment they find both understanding and supportive. We have a well-established boarding community of boys and girls.
Day & Boarding School Programs for Boys & Girls Ages 3-13:
Prep School - Ages 3-13:
The Prep School is formed of Years 3 through to 8 (and we call them Transition, then Forms 4,5,6,7 and 8). Transition and Form 4 still follow a class teacher model, with one teacher delivering the lion's share of the lessons. Whilst this consistency is maintained, the children also start to meet specialist staff as part of their routine. From Form 5 the focus shifts wholeheartedly to a subject taught model, with the boys and girls now receiving their lessons from a full spread of our staff in a sensibly paced run-up towards their entrance examinations at the end of Form 8.
Class sizes span between 10 and 14, ensuring that the understanding between pupil and teacher is as meaningful as possible. Each form also has its own form tutor who, as well as delivering some of that form's lessons, spends dedicated time in the course of each day with their children. Homework is done at school after lessons and is helped along again by the tutor.
Boarding School - Ages 7-13:
We have a well-established boarding facility for boys and girls. We also offer an overseas boarding programme for our overseas students. Boarding may be ‘full', “weekly” or on a “flexible” nightly basis. At Moreton Hall, boarding is run very much as an extended family. The headmaster and his wife oversee the boarding house, which is situated in the heart of the main school building. A dedicated team of two matrons and resident gap students supports the headmaster.
Full-time usually means living at school during the week and at weekends with visits home at exeat weekends and holidays. Weekly boarding means that you spend all week from Sunday to Thursday night inclusive at school. Flexi-boarding or “occasional boarding” may mean that you stay at school one or two nights a week. Many of our boarders have achieved 13+ scholarships.
For our overseas boarders, life is made easy by staff who organise transport to airports and offer an escort on train services for exeats and holidays. Matrons provide a service for any boarder needing haircuts, new shoes, dental appointments or extra storage over the holidays. Individual and small group lessons in English are offered to children for whom English is not the first language.
