Northern State University is located in Aberdeen, Brown County, South Dakota, about 125 miles northeast of Pierre. We are committed to providing graduate and undergraduate programs to promote excellence in teaching and learning, to support research, scholarly and creative activities, and to provide service to the State of South Dakota, the region, and the nation. We are accredited by the South Dakota Department of Education.

Northern State University serves more than 2200 students representing 36 states. A challenging, multi-faceted curriculum offers 41 majors, 42 minors, 9 associate, 8 pre-professional and 9 graduate degree areas including Law, Medicine, Business Studies, Education, and more.

Courses are taught by 120 full-time, dedicated faculty, more than 85 percent of whom have the highest degree possible in their academic field. A student-faculty ratio of 19-to-1 ensures that students have access to their professors, and a student-to- computer ratio of 4.7-to-1 is one of the best access-to-technology ratios in the nation.
