Instituto de Español Costa Rica is located in the capital of Costa Rica, San José, in the eastern part called Guadalupe, about 400 m from the State University (Universidad de Costa Rica) and 10 minutes from downtown (using the public bus). San José is situated in the interior of the country, buses leave to every part of the country from here. This makes it easy to reach the beaches, e.g. it is just a 2 hours bus ride to get to Jacó Beach.

General Spanish
IECR offers you group classes or individual lessons.
Group classes usually consist of three to four students - never more than six. This intimate class size helps us guarantee your learning success by adapting our teaching methodology to our students’ style. You will be placed in classes according to your Spanish proficiency level, which is determined by a placement test the first day of classes.

Specialized Spanish Classes
Business people, sales representatives, medicine students, doctors, missionaries, foreign language teachers, lawyers, attorneys etc. are ideal candidates for this program. It combines contents of the general Spanish course with the student’s individual field. You will receive 2 hours of general Spanish and 2 or 4 hours daily (depending on the program) of terminology and content according to your individual field of interest.

The Spanish school in Manuel Antonio , Costa Rica was started in 1992 and is today recognized as one of the best Spanish language schools in Costa Rica. In addition to offering excellent Spanish language programs, you will be hard pressed to find a more beautiful location within Costa Rica. The school itself sits on the side of a mountain overlooking the Manuel Antonio Beach Park Area and the Pacific. Classrooms are comfortable, and are situated both inside the building and outside on the comfortable patio. This school is the perfect option for those who want to get away from to the beaches and natural parks of Costa Rica, while at the same time learning Spanish.
When students arrive at the Spanish school in Manuel Antonio, they are given an oral proficiency interview to determine their level. Based on this interview, they are placed tentatively in one of six levels. Once placed in a class, students will experience the schools' total immersion methodology. Classes are conducted completely in Spanish. The school uses custom designed curriculum and text materials.

Group Classes: 4 lessons per day in class sizes of no more than 6 individuals. Average class size ranges from 4-8 students. During four lessons sessions, students participate actively in a small group environment. Each student is assured attention to their individual academic needs. If total immersion becomes a difficulty, we offer supplemental instruction in English once a week in order to clarify any doubts.
