International Academy of Travel, Waterford:
The International Academy of Travel (IAOT), based at Waterford Regional Airport in Co. Waterford offers internationally recognised travel industry training courses. We offer job-focused and practical training for students who wish to work as cabin crew, reservation sales agents, travel agents, overseas reps or in the area of passenger services. Our courses are available on site at our Airport based Training Centre; through one of our selected partnership third-level colleges or through online / distance learning, which can be studied from anywhere in the world!

International Travel Industry Studies Diploma course:
This is a full-time 2 week practical course, which takes place onsite in our modern Airport based Training Centre. It is designed to bring you to a level of knowledge that will help you apply for a position within the Travel Industry with confidence. After successfully completing the course, students will be eligible to apply for Air and Ground Travel Jobs worldwide. This course attracts students from all over Europe. It includes FETAC Module in Airport Passengers Services - level 6.
Certification: FETAC, Budget Travel. Galileo Ireland, Needahotel, PSARA, World Travel Centre, Top Flight, Falcon, JWT & Waterford Airport.
Course Content:
Unit One - General:
Travel Industry Careers, Travel Industry Organisations, Airline Terminology, Airline Abbreviations, Phonetic Alphabet, Airline Two Letter Codes, IATA Airport & City Codes, Twenty Four Hour Clock, Special Handling.
Unit Two - Cabin Crew Member:
Cabin Crew Duties and Responsibilities, Basic Flight Theory, Aviation Authorities, In-Flight Service, Passenger Handling Procedures, Cabin Safety Equipment, In Flight Medical Care, Survival Training, In-Flight Fire, Cabin Decompression, Food Hygiene & Time Zones.
Unit Three - Passenger Service Agent:
Check-In and Boarding Procedures, Passenger Handling, Passport & Visa Checks, Security Regulations, European Regulations on denied boarding, cancellation or long delays. KLM's computerised check-in system CODECO.
Unit Four - Basic IATA Ticketing:
IATA Ticketing, IATA World Geography
Unit Five - Travel Agent:
The role of a Travel Agent, Selling Package Holidays, Resort/Country Knowledge, Travel Agency Guides and Gazetteers, Cruising, Utilising Travel Trade Tools, Selling Insurance, Consolidator Fares & Systems.
Unit Six - Reservation Sales Agent:
Unit Seven - Interview Preparation:
Guideline to completing Application Forms, Curriculum Vitae Preparation, Letter of Application, Communication Skills, Individual Interview, Group Interview, Foreign Currency Conversion Exercises, Mock Examination Papers, Team Building Activities.
Unit Eight - Overseas Rep:
Basic Qualifications, Different categories of Reps, Duties and Responsibilities, Different types of Tour Operators, Welcome Meetings, Resort Knowledge and Location, World Geography, A day in the life of a Sun and Ski Rep, Customer Care & Culture Awareness, Sales Techniques.
