La Scuola Italiana, Seattle, WA:
La Scuola Italiana is a small, intimate Italian language school located in Belltown. As an alternative space, it offers affordable language instruction and small class sizes (8 -10 students per class), in downtown Seattle, WA. Each student's development is followed closely. A strong grammatical foundation is established while discussing customs, traditions, travel information, food, wines and integrating personal interests/goals. A common cause of frustration in language acquisition is the lag-time between student/teacher interactions caused by large classes. A smaller class size allows more individual attention, less delay and allows students to address individual issues the moment they occur in his/her learning.

Unlike many of the popular “quick and easy” language texts that speak of simple language acquisition, learning a foreign language takes some time and effort. Be realistic about your expectations. Language is a large part of what we, as adults, use to give others a sense of ourselves--and it is a difficult tool to forfeit. So try to speak as often as possible in Italian and don’t worry about making mistakes, it is a normal part of learning a language.
Adult Education:
Since adults lead active lives, often coming to La Scuola after work, we ask you to feel free to bring in some coffee or a snack…whatever it takes to keep you going. If work causes you to be late, just walk in quietly and join the class – the most important part of language learning is coming to class. A syllabus is provided for each course to give you a sense of the material covered if circumstances inhibit your attendance.
Many of you are here with the hope of learning some Italian so that a trip abroad may be more engaging, so that you might communicate better with the family you’ve only seen in photos, or that you might explore being bi-lingual and/or living in Italy. Let us know your interests so that we might help you meet your goals. Above all, relax and have fun!
Tutorials:
If your schedule is constantly changing, if you only need to tune-up your Italian or if you feel a classroom is not your best learning environment, then tutorials may be the answer. Instructor and student plan their schedules month by month. You may cancel and reschedule your tutorial with 24 hours notice. Tutorials are $40 per hour at La Scuola and $50 per hour off-site. If two people wish to take the tutorial together, there is no additional fee and they may split the cost between themselves.
Children’s Education:
Occasionally, and as demand dictates, we will be offering a Children’s Italian Language Class every other Saturday from 10:00AM – 12:00PM. The class will be interactive -- children will work on projects while learning new words and expressions. So, drop your kids off and while they study Italian, go shop at the Market or just take some time off. The class information will be posted and mailed out as it is scheduled.
