John Cabot University, Rome:
Receive an American university education in the heart of Rome with John Cabot University! The largest overseas American liberal arts university in Italy, JCU is accredited by the American Commission on Higher Education of the Middle States Association of Colleges and Schools. We provide 4-year Bachelor of Arts (BA) and 2-year Associate of Arts (AA) degree programs to students from the U.S. and worldwide. In addition, we offer a Master of Arts (MA) in Art History, semester and year-long study abroad programs, and summer programs. The language of instruction is English.

JCU offers a range of semester and year-long study abroad programs, four-year Bachelor of Arts (BA) and two-year Associate of Arts (AA) degree programs. The language of instruction is English.


Bachelor of Arts (BA) & Associate of Arts (AA) Degree Programs:

Students who achieve high levels of academic excellence (minimum cumulative grade point average of 3.5) have the option of taking specially designated “Honors Courses.” 

The Associate of Arts is a two-year liberal arts degree program that is available in every major and minor field of study at JCU. It includes a major field as well as other distribution requirements.

Honors Courses:
Students who achieve high levels of academic excellence (minimum cumulative grade point average of 3.5) have the option of taking specially designated “Honors Courses.”

These may also include occasional interdisciplinary seminars open only to such students. More frequently, regular John Cabot University courses may be offered with an option of taking them for four academic credits as “Honors Courses.” 

Students who register for such courses as “Honors Courses” must complete additional assignments (e.g., research papers or portfolios) in which they delve more deeply into the subject matter in question.


Master of Arts (MA) Degree in Art History:
Duration: 15 months of full-time study

Accredited by the Middle States Commission on Higher Education, this is the first US-accredited graduate degree program in art history based entirely in Rome.

The course guides students toward professional mastery of the materials and methods of art history, and places an emphasis on first-hand research in the archaeology, monuments, and museums of Rome.

Photos of John Cabot University, RomeIf English is not your native language and you didn’t attend an institution where classes were taught in English, please submit your TOEFL score (minimum score – 213 in the computer test or 550 in the traditional, paper test), ibTOEFL 85+ or IELTS 6.5+.


Italian Language Courses:
We recommend that study abroad students take at least one Italian language course as part of their program while studying at John Cabot.

Placement is determined by the Italian proficiency exam administered during the orientation session.
