Located in the heart of downtown Columbia SC, the South Carolina State Museum provides a variety of educational, engineering-based summer camps for kids. Offered in partnership with Engineering for Kids, our summer camps inspire children to build on their natural curiosity by teaching engineering concepts through hands-on learning. Throughout 5 weeks in summer 2014, the museum will present day camps that focus on combining engineering and science with fun for all campers. Each week, the camp days will be broken down into morning and afternoon sessions. Campers are able to sign up for full-day and half-day options. Convenient for kids from Darlington, Lee, Lexington, Richland, and Sumter Counties.

Engineering-Based Summer Camps for Kids:

LEGO: Mindstorm
Campers design, program and control fully functional robotic models using LEGO Robotics in a series of real-life activities. Campers also test and modify robot behaviors.

LEGO: Rescue Mission
Campers design and program robots to respond to simulated disaster situations such as moving rubble and retrieving targets.

LEGO: How Amusing
Campers compete on teams in engineering-related contests with the goal of creating the most fantastic theme park experience ever.

Survivor: Engineers Cove
Campers compete as tribes in engineering-related challenges to survive and eventually escape an abandoned island!

Heroes Week
Campers join a league of heroes and compete in engineering-related challenges to protect the world and save mankind in the process,

Electronic Game Design: Invader Defense Game
Campers create their own video game from start to finish using Multimedia Fusion 2.

Game Design: Racing Games
Campers use Multimedia Fusion 2 to design a racetrack, race cars and an environment in which their cars compete.

The Engineering of Food (Girls Only)
Students explore The Engineering of Food, and create their very own food production company in this appetizing camp.

Momentum Madness
Campers work with their Pit Crew to design and build vehicles, such as dragsters and hovering levitrons, able to withstand astonishing speeds.
