Lycée Français La Pérouse, Bay Area:
The Lycée is a French pre-kindergarten to 12th grade college preparatory school in the San Francisco Bay Area of Northern California which is based on the French national curriculum augmented by courses in American History, English Literature and Visual Arts. It provides a challenging educational environment, emphasizing academic achievement leading to the French Baccalaureate. Our students earn an American high school diploma, as well as prepare for the French Baccalauréat which qualifies them to attend European universities. There are currently more than 900 students on three campuses in Marin County, Ortega and Ashbury. Lycée Français La Pérouse is fully accredited in the U.S.
The Lycée was founded in San Francisco in 1967 to provide a total immersion French education program adhering to the highly respected curriculum of France's national education system. Classes were originally held in the basement of the Orthodox Church on Geary Street, then in its early years at U.C. Extension, at Fort Mason, and eventually in our own building on Balboa Street (until we outgrew it).
In 1986, The French School of Marin merged with the Lycée, adding a Marin County campus with preschool through 5th grade. In 1995, Lycée Français La Pérouse purchased the building at 755 Ashbury Street in San Francisco, where we now have our primary school. In 2007, we acquired our third campus for the Secondary school.
- A PK to 12th grade college preparatory school.
- Full time school from 2 1/2 years old (nursery school) to 12th grade.
- A part-time nursery class is avalaible on the Corte Madera campus, Marin County for the 2 1/2 to 3 1/2 years old.
Designed to provide our students with a structured, well-assimilated body of general
knowledge while encouraging the development of analytical and critical thinking skills, the curriculum fosters autonomy, initiative, self-respect and the respect of others, cooperation and responsibility. In addition, by becoming bilingual, our students become aware of and respect cultural differences. They are consequently able to make informed choices about their future and are prepared for success in tomorrow's world.
The Lycée students have access to all other French schools at their own grade level. As a result of the high quality English curriculum, they are also qualified to enter an American school at or above their grade level, and are fully prepared to enter European or North American colleges and universities.
