Orange Coast Gakuen Japanese Language School, Huntington Beach:
Located in beautiful Huntington Beach, CA, Orange Coast Gakuen (OCG) is a Japanese language school that provides Japanese language learning courses to students of all ages and ability levels. Our Japanese classes are catered for elementary school age children, junior & senior high schoolers, and adults alike. Our language classes also include a variety of Japanese cultural activities, as well as opportunities to take additional cultural classes.

Beginner to Advanced Japanese Language Classes:
Our classes are divided into tracks, allowing us to teach children of all backgrounds in the Japanese language. Our classes are thus taught in a content-driven manner, in which teachers use the study of a certain topic as a vehicle for teaching vocabulary, kanji, and grammar.

Japanese as a Heritage Language (JHL)
This track is for learners of Japanese as a Heritage Language (JHL), designed for students who regularly hear and speak Japanese in their home environments.

Japanese as a Foreign Language (JFL)
A second track is for learners of Japanese as a Foreign Language (JFL), which is designed for students with less background in Japanese. Some JFL students may speak and hear some Japanese at home, while others have very little exposure. The difference between JHL and JFL students is a subtle one. Both tracks teach all of the core language skills, including listening, speaking, reading, and writing.

Japanese for High School Students:
OCG also offers Japanese for High School students who have only recently started learning the language. These courses focus on practical language skills. Most of our High School students can use our classes to receive foreign language credit at their local High Schools. OCG also has a class that helps our High School students prepare for the Credit Test and the Advanced Placement Test in Japanese.

Japanese for Adults:
These classes are open to any adult, even if you do not have a child at OCG. Our courses are divided into beginner, intermediate, and advanced levels. Classes are held during our regular school hours on Saturdays, with each class lasting one hour and a half.

Japanese Cultural Classes:

Brush Calligraphy
OCG's class in oshūji (Japanese brush calligraphy) is taught after school on Saturdays, and last for one hour. The class is held for an hour after class, and is open only to students already enrolled at OCG.
  
Flower Arranging
We offer a class in the art of flower arranging (Ikebana), taught by a highly ranked instructor, Sumiyo Ogawa. The class is held every other Saturday from 9 am until 11 am. You may enroll even if you do not have a child at OCG.
