All educational experience shapes achievement long into a student’s future. In the Primary division of the Turning Point School experience, students find themselves immersed within the nurturing, Montessori-based environment upon which the school was founded.

Students are able to choose from a variety of work—puzzles, art, manipulatives, book corner time, kitchen area experience, construction in the block corner, computer use, or dramatic play. Additionally, students may work within specific Montessori areas including practical life, sensorial, language, and mathematics. Concepts involving community, exploration, and observation help to construct a base knowledge for each student in all areas of study.

Elementary Division Programs (Levels K-1 – Level 5):
The Elementary Division is very much the center of the Turning Point School community. Over the course of their elementary years, our students develop the fundamentals of learning and form a sense of self. They move from decoding to comprehension. They begin to express themselves in writing. They gain strength. They begin to explore connections to the world around them.

Our teachers work to engage the young individuals they teach. Quick to praise success, they make learning intriguing. Through experiences that consciously blur the distinctions between subjects, students, home, and school, students older and younger have a chance to apply their skills and knowledge in different contexts.

We are looking for Middle School students with a variety of backgrounds and talents who will be able to make significant contributions to the Turning Point community through their academic achievement, creative talents, athletic abilities, positive social behavior, and participation in the school’s programs.

Middle School Division Programs (Level 6 – Level 8)
:
We expect our oldest students to be leaders—both for themImage of Private School in Culver City, CAselves and within their community. Over the course of Levels 6-8, our students are given the opportunity to apply themselves in increasingly sophisticated ways. As is appropriate for a developmental stage characterized by increasing independence, our teachers guide Middle School students toward finding their own path, prepared to take on the challenges that will face them in whatever upper school they choose to attend.

We support the development of independent thinkers, with a strong sense of personal responsibility and identity. Turning Point’s Middle School division is a small community where stable, close, mutually respectful relationships with adults and peers are considered fundamental for intellectual development, cognitive and personal growth.

Lessons focus on the core subjects of foreign language, language arts, literature, mathematics, science and social studies.

Daycare Programs:

Turning Point School offers daycare twice daily, from 7:30-8:30 a.m. and from 2:45-6:00 p.m. In the afternoon session, daycare personnel provide a safe, interactive after-school environment in which learning continues, whether it be through stimulating activities for children of Primary age, or through homework supervision for students in Levels K-1 through 8.

After-School Classes:
Recent course offerings have included four sports classes, gardening, woodworking, story time, cooking, magic, choir, arts and crafts, newspaper, karate, dance, French, and Brownie Girl Scouting.

Summer Camp:
The summer camp features age-appropriate activities in athletics, art, music, dramatic play, socialization, special days and field trips.

Laurel Hill Nursery School, San Francisco
Courses / Programs
Established in 1946 and set in the heart of San Francisco in the Laurel Heights area, Laurel Hill is the oldest parent-participation, cooperative nursery school in San Francisco. Our philosophy is child-centered and is focused on building a child's self esteem through socialization and play. While there is no strict academic program at Laurel Hill, our children thrive in an environment that lets them learn organically. Laurel Hill is the largest co-op nursery school in the Bay Area, with approximately 80 families enrolled. We currently have a staff of 8 teachers, and with parent participation our adult-to-child ratio is roughly 1 to 5.

Families who become members of the co-op need to fulfill participation responsibilities, and by doing so allow us to offer an unrivaled experience at extremely affordable rates. But more important than the financial benefits, by participating at Laurel Hill, you'll connect with an incredible group of families, you'll know your children's friends and teachers intimately, and you'll have the satisfaction of being truly involved in your child's first foray into the school environment.
