Co-Educational Programs for Junior K through 12th Grade Students:

Lower School Curriculum:
The Lower School at Kentucky Country Day provides a full-day junior kindergarten and kindergarten experience for the academic year as well as a full day for grades one through four. Working closely with students, teachers strive to give each child a strong foundation in the basic skills in each discipline and at every grade level. At the same time, we encourage healthy relationships among students and between students and teachers.

Because children mature and become ready to learn at varying rates, a given skill level is not identical in all students. The school considers individual needs while encouraging the pursuit of excellence. The goals are high, but teachers are dedicated to challenging youngsters to do their best without undue pressure. Cultivation of a strong self-image is of primary importance in order that the child may develop a sense of confidence and joy in the ability to learn new skills.

Middle School Curriculum:
The middle school experience is a vital transition from childhood to adolescence. Our program recognizes the unique needs of each grade level along this transitional path and offers appropriate challenges tailored to each level. We direct our efforts at helping students learn to focus their academic, artistic, athletic, social, and emotional energies into constructive, creative, and responsible channels.

Because of the critical nature of these years in a child’s development, our middle school faculty and administration actively stress the healthy development of behaviors and skills that can contribute to success in all areas of the student’s life. To further this goal, each student is assigned an advisor who is part of that grade-level team. The advisor confers with both the student and the parents throughout the year. The middle school program offers numerous and diverse opportunities in academics, athletics, and the arts. We encourage students to participate in a variety of activities as a way to foster new interests and to interact with more of their middle school peers. Regular and frequent meetings among teachers result in an emphasis on an interdisciplinary approach to teaching at all grade levels.
