Mandarin Language Learning in Essex County NJ

Hua Xia Northern Chinese School, Essex County:
Hua Xia Northern Chinese School is a Chinese language school located in Verona, Essex County (part of the New York metropolitan area) in New Jersey. We offer Chinese classes for adults, teens and kids on Saturdays. The objectives of the school are to teach Chinese language, promote Chinese culture and serve the community. Chinese Phonetic Alphabet system (Pin Yin) is used to help students learn Chinese.

We offer the following Mandarin Chinese classes for children, teenagers and adults:

CSLMME: Mommy, or Daddy & Me for Children of Ages 2-5 (45 mins):
Children learn Chinese through games, songs , rhymes and role play. Communication skills will be developed with age-appropriate stories & multimedia. This is group immersion Chinese class for parents & children. Class materials: Lang Wai Po Songbook & CD, My First Chinese Words & CD.

There are two class levels: CSLMME1 and CSLMME2. After CSLMME2, students will go to CSLC1.

CSLCB: Basic Chinese for Youngsters of Age 5-10 (90mins):
5-10 year olds are introduced to topic-oriented sessions to build a foundation of listening and speaking skills. Stories form the backbone for each session. Games, songs, dance, activities and play flow through each story. This is a children’s group immersion Chinese class. Parents are not allowed. Class materials: My First Chinese Words & CD.and and Mandarin Hip Hop and other supplementary materials. After CSLCB, students will go to CSLC1 courses.

CSLC: Chinese Reading and Writing for Youngsters of Age 7-16:
7-16 year olds children are learning basic listening, speaking, reading and writing skills from topic-oriented lessons in a multimedia environment. They will lean PinYin, strokes, reading and writing Chinese Characters.
This is a children’s group immersion Chinese class. Parents are not allowed. Class materials are: My First Chinese Readers & CD, and classic Chinese stories.

There are four class levels CSLC1, CSLC2, CSLC3 and CSLC4. The pre-required courses are CSLMme2 ,CSLCB or CSL2Y.

CSLA: Chinese Reading and Writing for Age of 16+ or adults:
The classes are offered for non-Chinese speaking students who have certain Chinese conversational skills and want to continue to learn PinYin, stroke, and Chinese character, and to learn to read and write in Chinese for academic preparation. The textbooks and workbook are: Learn Chinese With Me textbooks with an accompanying CD or My First Chinese Reader textbook, workbook and CD.

There are four class levels: CSLAC1, CSLAC2, CSLAC3 and CSLAC4.

CSLAA: Advanced Chinese Classes for Adults:
The class is offered for non-Chinese speaking students who have learned Chinese for more than 5 years and want to continue to improve their reading and writing skills. The materials are ‘Integrated Chinese Level 2, and Communicate in Chinese Level 2 or 3.

Ma Liping (MLP) classes, Recommended for 6 years and older:
Ma Liping Classes are designed for students with a Chinese Speaking environment at home. Students will be able to recognize and understand 302 Chinese characters after Grade 1, 682 characters after Grade 2, and 1035 characters after Grade 3. They will be able to write around 350 characters after three years and be able to read more than 150 interesting articles/poems, all written in words they learned in the classroom. The teaching methods are fun, hands-on, and including multimedia CDs. There are three class levers: MLP1, MLP2,MLP.
