The Dwight School, Manhattan:
Founded in 1872, The Dwight School is a PreK-12 private international school located on Manhattan’s Upper West Side in New York City. In 1996, Dwight became the first school in North America to provide the full International Baccalaureate (IB) program from kindergarten through grade 12. Dwight is subdivided into five separate academic houses: Timothy House (K-5), Bentley House (6-8), Franklin House (9-10), and Anglo House (11-12), and the Early Years Program at Woodside Preschool (ages 2-4).
The Dwight School vibrates with adventure, wonder, energy and the mysteries of our world. Our task is to orchestrate a mosaic of talented individuals who will ignite the “unique spark of genius” within each student, teachers who can change how a student thinks about himself and the world.
Our mantras are to dare to dream, to have the courage to take intellectual risks, and to build leaders through action.
Student Profile:
Parents often ask what Dwight looks for in an applicant. The answer is: an open-minded young person with a sincere desire to learn, and a spark of interest that can be fanned to illuminate the student’s full array of talents.
Through the International Baccalaureate Program, Dwight’s goal is to educate internationally-minded individuals who will be caring, principled leaders. Dwight students and faculty strive to live that credo daily.
Dwight Community:
The Dwight School is like a great orchestra co-ordinating harmony among children from nearly 40 countries. What makes Dwight special is an ability to harvest the rich resources of parents, alumni, teachers, and community to nourish a meaningful educational adventure for each student.
