Photography workshops are a great way to improve your picture taking skills and learn new techniques while having fun. Travel photography is his specialist subject and he can give you a lot of advice on gear, locations, techniques and tips for better travel photography. Private Lessons for intensive learning are available when you need to make progress as rapidly as possible.
Beginner Workshop: This 3 hour workshop will show you how to use your digital camera using settings beyond straight automatic. These classes are designed to be fun and informative. The small class size means plenty of personal attention. If you are a beginner I will show you what you need to know now. If you already know the basics I will help you take your photography to the next level. Subjects covered include: Understanding Exposure - How to prevent under and over exposure using the Histogram combined with Exposure Compensation. Take the guess work out of exposure control.
Setting White Balance for natural colour - You will learn how to match the camera's white balance to the colour of the prevailing light. You will also learn how to use WB creatively; turn night in to day, add warmth to a portrait.
Learn how to control movement through setting Shutter Speeds - We look at how to freeze fast moving subjects, how to create a milky appearance in flowing water and how to "Pan".
One of the most important creative controls available to a photographer is the ability to control Depth Of Field. We will explore using Apertures to throw distracting backgrounds out of focus (or keep interesting back in focus). We will discuss important accessories including filters, lenshoods, flash and imaging software. Level This class is suitable for: Absolute beginners, Refresher for intermediate, Any level moving to Digital from Film.
1 Day Photography Workshop: These 6 Hour Photography Workshops start with the very basics. In the morning session you will learn about the various exposure modes and how to use the controls of your camera to make better images. The afternoon session takes you to the next level.
Morning Session: 9 am- 1pm (10 am - 2 pm for Sunday workshops). We meet near the Archibald Fountain in Hyde Park. Topics covered include how to control motion with shutter speeds, using apertures and Depth of Field to blur backgrounds (or to keep them sharp). Exposure compensation, Exposure bracketing. Afternoon Session: 1.30-3.30 pm (2 pm- 4.30 pm for Sunday workshops) We meet back at the Archibald Fountain in Hyde Park.
The afternoon session will expand on the mornings learning and explain the advantages of RAW files, how to optimise White Balance. Learn how to make better portraits and close-ups. We will do some "panning" and explore perspective. By the end of the workshop you should be feeling confident with you digital camera.
Travel Photography Weekend Workshop: This Travel Photography Workshop runs for 12 Hours over one weekend. You will learn how to get the most out of your digital camera. I will show you techniques to lift the quality of your images. Next trip bring back great travel photography instead of holiday snaps!
