Sydney Art School:
Sydney Art School is an an Independent School for Visual Arts located in the Baulkham Hills area of Sydney. We provide Art Classes and Workshops in the Hills District. Because of a deep personal love of art and enjoying exploring all forms of visual art, we created an art school to help others share the pleasure of discovering their own personal creativity. Classes are available in painting, life drawing, drawing, figure painting, creative jewelery, impressionism & modernt art. Our art school is designed to cater for all levels of experience, from beginners to experienced artists. As a student at Sydney Art School you have the opportunity to learn from a variety of tutors with a diverse range of skills and perspectives. This engages you in a wider range of learning experiences and accelerates the development of your artistic ability. Our art class sizes are small because having well credentialed tutors is not enough. You also need to get time for personal instruction.

Art Short Courses:
Each School Student Short Course is planned over a 5 week period. At the end of each course the student will create one major art work in addition to drawings and paintings produced during the weekly lessons.

Weekly classes focussing on a specific style, artist, subject or media. Classes available in painting, life drawing, drawing, figure painting, creative jewelery, impressionism & modernt art.Suitable for all levels plus portfolio preparation for entry to tertiary fine arts diploma or degree.

Weekly Lesson Structure:
Each weekly lesson will typically have the following components:
Seeing Exercise -Photo of Art Courses in Sydney, Australia Instruction on how to "see" like an artist and a practical exercise to develop the skill.
Drawing Exercise - Instruction on a drawing technique and practical exercise.
Painting Exercise - Instruction on a painting technique and practical exercise
Context Discussion - Discussion of the historical context relevant to the exercisesThis is best illustrated in the abbreviated sample lesson plan:

Sample Lesson Plan 1:

Seeing Exercise:
Positive & Negative Spaces
Show some paintings by well known artists (e.g. Van Gogh - Still Life)
Explain concept of negative space. Ask students to identify and draw them.

Drawing Exercise:
From the example painting discuss the elements of the composition.
Students sketch the painting varying the composition e.g. moving the height of the table or size of the subject.
Observe, understand & discuss the impact of the changes - works/what doesn't work and why.

Painting Exercise:
Explain how to mix colours to match the colour used in the painting.
Explain brush stroke technique used by the artists.
Student mix colours and use same brush stroke technique to create a reproduction of the painting.

Art Workshops:

Sydney Art School runs regular demonstrations and workshops giving students the opportunity to receive personal tuition from a cross section of some of the best artists in Australia. Each workshop is designed to develop skills in a specific focus area selected from a range of subject matter, artistic styles, and media. The workshops are also suitable for students preparing a portfolio for entry to a tertiary institution.
