The education provided at Brockhurst and Marlston House Schools aims to combine the best attributes of the single-sex and co-education systems. From Year 2, boys and girls are taught separately in small, single-sex classes. We believe this is the best system for developing their academic potential.

However, they continue to mix for the many social and extracurricular activities we provide. At the age of thirteen, their classes are combined again in preparation for the Common Entrance exams.

Boarding Facilities:

At Brockhurst and Marlston House Schools we provide full and varied boarding programmes, with full-board and part-board offered with comprehensive pastoral care. We aim to make boarding an extension of family life, with the housemaster and his family living in the school next to the boarders. Boarders in each school have their own common room in which to relax and full use of the school's outstanding facilities.

Full boarders are a very important part of the ethos of each school and great care and provision is given to ensuring their welfare and happiness. In recent years, both schools have also evolved a flexible system of boarding. This allows boys and girls to board for one or more nights a week including at weekends according to their choice.

By living together, boys and girls learn to share and to have consideration for others and, with encouragement, they learn to stand on their own feet and, increasingly, to shoulder responsibility.

Located on the outskirts of Ruthin, the county town of Denbighshire in North Wales, Ruthin School is a co-educational day and boarding school for students ages 11+.
