Academics- International Baccalaureate Program:
AIS is one of a handful of schools in the world to offer the International Baccalaureate (IB) to all its students from four-year-old kindergarten through grade 12.
Students 4K to grade 5 follow the IB Primary Years Programme (PYP), which focuses on the development of the whole child inside and outside the classroom. PYP students expereince the inquiry based curriculum in two languages: English and either French, German or Spanish.
Students in grades 6 to 10 follow the IB Middle Years Programme (MYP), developing life skills and critical thinking abilities in challenging, interrelated academic courses in preparation for the IB Diploma Programme (DP).
A rigorous, world-renowned two-year program of study for grades 11 and 12, the DP includes college-level instruction, extracurricular and community service requirements, an extended essay and internationally standardized examinations. With 100% of our eleventh and twelfth graders enrolled in the IB Diploma Programme, AIS is one of few schools that can claim full participation in the IBDP. In addition to paving the way for entrance to the finest universities worldwide, AIS prepares students to excel in higher education and beyond.
The IB Learner Profile is a set of clearly defined attributes that describes the whole person as a lifelong learner and forms the foundation of all three IB programs: the PYP, MYP and DP. Through the Learner Profile, the IB aims to develop learners who are Inquirers, Knowledgeable, Thinkers, Communicators, Principled, Open-minded, Caring, Risk-takers, Balanced, and Reflective.
