El Cuélebre:
El Cuélebre is situated in the mountains of Asturias, in Northern Spain. The Principality of Asturias is located in the north-west of Spain, bordered on the east by Cantabria, on the south by Castilla y León, on the west by Galicia, and on the north by the Cantabrian Sea. Asturias is a region of Spain that is still free from the massive package tourism that crowds and stifles other parts of Spain. It is a totally genuine region in which you will be able to get to know the life and real customs of the most exciting Spain.
Inside Asturias, El Cuélebre is to be found in a very special place, a "braña vaqueira" called La Peral, in the heart of Somiedo Natural Park (Somiedo was declared biosphere reserve by UNESCO in the year 2000). La Peral’s situation is exceptional; being in the highest part of the Park it offers some impressive views. In fact, the entire village is a spectacular viewpoint. In fact, the "Mirador del Príncipe" (The Viewpoint of the Prince), one the best places to admire the beauty of the Cantabrian Mountains, is in La Peral. On the other hand, La Peral is a quiet place brimming with nature, ideal to put into practice what you learn without distractions.
Perhaps the best feature of El Cuélebre are the skies, the forests, the rivers, the mountains and the environs of Somiedo Natural Park. Our favourite activities are those which take place outdoors: hikes around the beautiful surroundings, outings to different corners of the Park, picnics, etc.
Our courses are very exclusive: they admit a maximum of two people. Your hosts will do absolutely everything they can so that you enjoy your stay and so that you practice your Spanish in a relaxed and nice environment.
Location and Facilities:
Somiedo wears its prettiest dress in spring, and the plant biodiversity which characterizes the Park becomes an infinite blanket of colourful flowers at this time of the year. A real delight!
If you come in winter, you should get ready to see a white beautiful landscape. In the picture: the white mountains from "El Cuélebre".
We have a wonderful room for you, spacious, with amazing views over the mountains of Somiedo, with a big sunny private balcony , from which the panorama is truly magnificent. The room is very well equipped: huge table, two laptops, one 22” LCD TV with DVD player, connected via satellite. Every little detail is taken care of so you feel at home. The room is available either with a nice king size bed or with two single beds. The toilet is not en suite, but there is one next to your room for your own exclusive use. It is fully equipped with a shower and everything you might need, including a hair dryer.
The classroom is also bright and has fantastic views as well. The equipment here is also state of the art. There is also a small multimedia library that is at your complete disposal. In this library we have books, films, documentaries, music, comics, magazines, dictionaries and grammar books, so you can keep practicing your Spanish at every moment.
We have a spacious and bright lounge-dining-room with views over the steep Somiedo summits, where we will eat and talk, as usual, in Spanish. Meals are very important for us. We love it when our guests enjoy them, and we offer variety and quality.
The green landscape in Somiedo is dotted about with the traditional local constructions or "cabanas de teito". This is a testimony of a very well preserved heritage.
