Learning Italian requires the development of the four basic language skills: reading, writing, listening and speaking in order that students achieve the ability to understand and express themselves in authentic communicative situations. Travelling in Italy and staying in Rome for some time provides the opportunity to learn the Italian language together with the history and culture of one of the greatest civilizations of all times: the Romans. In the wide list of programmes that Dilit do, there are many courses about italian general knowledge and history.

Methodology:

Dilit -IH was one of the first schools to adopt a fully communicative approach to the teaching of Italian, and the approach is being up-dated all the time. Language is never presented out of context; and grammar, phonology, lexis and all other features of actual language use in everyday situations are analysed. A wide variety of up-to-date authentic material is used in class, thus giving the students valuable information about modern-day Italian culture and society at the same time as developing the students' authentic linguistic and communicative skills. Amongst the principal techniques and procedures employed in class are: communicative tasks, group work, and dramatisation. The accent is on activity rather than on passive receptivity.

Our Teachers:

The teachers are all native speakers and hold both a university degree and a diploma in the teaching of their mother tongue as a foreign language. Dilit-International House is also well-known for its Teacher-training Centre (Accredited by the Italian Ministry of Education).

Our Students:
The school caters for students from all over the world at all levels and with a wide variety of needs. The minimum age is 16. Each year about 2000 students from more than 60 countries come to Dilit-International House. This situation avoids the concentration of students of the same nationality and favours the use of Italian outside the classroom and the exchange between different peoples and cultures.

Location:

Rome, the Eternal city, the heart of one of the most ancient of civilisations, birthplace of so many of the peoples and cultures of our time. Hundreds of writers, poets and artists of every period and every part of the world have celebrated its beauty, its colour, its art and its atmosphere laden with history.

The school is situated in the centre of Rome just a short walk from the central railway station (Termini Station) and conveniently placed for transport to every area of the city. In the school, a five-storied Liberty style villa, there are 10 classrooms. In addition, there are 15 other classrooms in the two annexes just a few steps from the main building.
