Excel College Manchester is an English language school in Manchester city centre. Established in 2003, Excel College is a UKBA Highly Trusted Sponsor, accredited by the British Council and a member of English UK. We deliver an excellent level of education for serious students at low cost prices.
General English Course:
Excel College offers General English Courses of 6, 9 and 15 hours a week in the morning, afternoon and evening. Our General English classes are designed to help you develop your language skills in interesting and stimulating ways. This will include the use of multimedia, role-plays and discussions as well as covering all the vocabulary and grammar appropriate to your level of study.
Students studying Upper Intermediate, Advanced or Proficiency will use Cambridge material to help those students interested in studying for the FCE, CAE or CPE exams. If you are interested in taking a Cambridge exam, speak to your teacher who will give you exam tips and practice material.
Learning is conducted in a variety of ways through presentations, research, debates, use of IT as well as through grammar and vocabulary exercises. In one lesson you can expect to cover all four skills; reading, writing, speaking and listening.
Visits to museums and other cultural locations are an important part of learning. They allow you to use your English outside of the classroom whilst also learning about the UK’s exciting history and geography. Trips are organised by your teacher every term and are fully integrated into the syllabus.
IELTS Preparation Course:IELTS preparation courses at Excel College are run by IELTS
Specialists. Courses run in the morning, afternoon and evening
for 6, 9 or 15 hours a week.
Foundation level
Students will need to have a good intermediate level of General English before joining an IELTS preparation class. This course will continue to improve your General English language skills and expand your vocabulary on key IELTS topics. You will become familiar with all parts of the test and develop strategies to improve test skills.
This course is designed to bring students up to a 5.5 in all band scores.Advanced level
At Advanced level, you will continue to improve your use of grammatical structures and key vocabulary across all parts of the test. You will receive intensive support in all skills during lessons and be encouraged to practice these extensively outside of class. You will have regular practise tests, many under exam conditions and be given approximate band scores to assess your progress.
This course is designed for students who already have an overall IELTS level of around 5.5 and who need to achieve 6.5 or higher.
Intensive English:
You can study an Intensive English course for 21, 24 and 30 hours a week. There are many different course options for students studying an intensive course. Have a look at the timetables below to see the different types of courses we offer. If you book an intensive course, we will discuss with you the courses that will best fit your study plan and help you to design your time table.

International Foundation Year:The Foundation programme will provide you with an entry route to UK universities. It will also give you the study skills you’ll need to succeed when you get there. Students who study the International Foundation Year go on to do undergraduate degrees in Computing, Business or Engineering. The year-long, intensive course will develop your English language and academic skills ready for university.
Skills and Modules
At Excel College, we have teachers that specialise in English for Specific Purposes. This could be Business English, Medical English or even Law. Just speak to us before you arrive and we will let you know the courses we have available. If there is no course available, you can always study this as a one-to-one course alongside a General English or IELTS Preparation course.

Communication ClassCommunication Classes are for students who wish to focus more on their speaking and listening skills. The classes are two days a week for a total of 3 hours. This course works well with the Writing Clinic and can be taken as part of an Intensive English course.
Lots of students need to develop confidence in using the more communicative skills. Both upper and lower level classes aim to improve fluency in speaking and listening. The syllabus focuses on real-life functional situations and key topical areas. The importance of clear pronunciation and a good use of grammar is embedded into the classes. The Communication course can be teamed with the Writing clinic, as a ‘top-up’ to a General English or IELTS course as well as a stand-alone, part-time programme.
Writing Class
Writing Class focuses on a student’s skills. The classes are two days a week for a total of 3 hours. This can be taken alongside Communication Class, General English or IELTS Preparation for an intensive course or as a stand-alone, part-time course.
For most students, writing is the most difficult skill. From forming the letters of the English alphabet, correcting grammar and experimenting with sentence structures through to writing essays and reports, this course will give students the opportunity to focus on improving this vital skill. The course will respond to the type of writing that is relevant to the students; for example writing covering letters and C.V.s for work, personal statements for entrance to university, academic essays. The overall aim of the course is to help students feel more confident in expressing themselves and communicating through writing.
Business English
Due to the ever increasing levels of international working relationships, a firm knowlege of Business English can directly impact the performance of your business and employment in general. The Business English course taught at Excel College is designed around your needs combining functional skills, such as writing an email and presenting ideas, as well as business vocabulary and grammar to help with overall fuency and comprehension.
The course will encourage you to develop and build on your own skills and knowledge of global business. You will learn to communicate effectively and confidently in the business world in a course that is designed around your business’ needs.
Medical EnglishMany students come to the UK to practice medicine, nursing, pharmacy or dentistry. As well as studying toward their IELTS exam, many students feel the need to have a more thorough understanding of medical terms. Medical English will focus on written and verbal comminication skills, teaching you how to communicate effectively with patients and staff.
This is combined with medical vocabulary and grammar to help with overall fuency and comprehension. We design the course around a student’s professional goals ensuring they feel confident in their work.
Legal English
Our Legal English course covers all aspects of English law, from Employment law to setting up a company or business right through to insolvency. The course focuses on the advanced grammatical structure required for a basic understanding of law as well as teaching important vocabulary. This, together with structured reading, writing, listening and speaking exercises will provide you with a solid platform from which to practise Law and Law related employment.
