Study in the Netherlands - Register for University, College
Legal stay in the Netherlands
According to a law from 1998 (the ‘Koppelingswet') - The University or College must confirm that all foreign students are residing in the Netherlands legally, before they may be admitted to the first day of classes. This is done by checking the corresponding document from the Foreigners Police.
Therefore, all international students have to report at the Foreigners Police Department within 3 days after arrival in the Netherlands.
Please note that this rule is even valid for those students who are not obliged to have an Authorization for Temporary Residence (MVV) and for students from EU countries.
