Add to this, the opportunity for practical experience through fieldwork courses and internships and an AUR degree prepares you for further study or work anywhere in the world.
Students may request The American University of Rome to arrange housing on their behalf or
may choose to make their own housing arrangements. Students choosing university-facilitated housing are placed in furnished apartments in areas surrounding the university campus.
The apartments are located in traditional, well established neighborhoods. This housing is well suited for students looking for a "full immersion" cultural experience. While apartments are standardized in terms of basic amenities, they can vary greatly in terms of both proximity to the university and aesthetics.
Students who do not wish to contract for a place in university-arranged housing are free to make their own housing arrangements.
The easiest and most commonly used form of transportation is the bus. There are also trams and a two-line metro system in Rome.
Bus stops, departure schedules and route information are found on well-marked signs throughout the city, and can also be found online. Orange, blue or green ATAC city buses and tram lines run from about 5am to about midnight.

" I chose AUR because of its challenging curriculum in Italian Studies. I decided on this major as I have always loved the language and culture of this boot-shaped peninsula. I have embraced the opportunity at AUR to befriend students and faculty from all over the world. Our multi-lingual community has furthered my understanding of Italy and the world. The international faculty and staff are always willing to spend time to help students."
- Edgar, USA.
"AUR has prepared me for my masters in Cultural Heritage Studies at University College London by giving me a hands-on approach to the study of art history and archeology in a modern day context. A wonderful excursion to Ghana, where I did archeological excavations and ethnographic fieldwork, provided me with contemporary and theoretical perspectives in archeology."
- Dana, USA
