Established in January 2002, Cheung Kong Graduate School of Business in Beijing and Shanghai holds a unique position of being China's first independent, freestanding and not-for-profit institution of higher learning offering degree and non-degree management education programs at graduate level and above. The University of International Business and Economics (UIBE), formerly known as the Beijing Institute of Foreign Trade (BIFT), was founded in 1951. The University offers thirteen master's and two doctoral degree programs in addition to twenty-two undergraduate major fields. The University is accredited by the Academic Degree Committee under the State Council. In 1988 the Board of Regents of the University of the State of New York acknowledged UIBE's granting the degree of Master Business Administration in International Trade, which leads to the recognition of the above program by all American universities. At present, UIBE has over 20,000 students from China and 600 international students from more than 30 countries.

Beijing International MBA at Peking University is the first joint international MBA program in Beijing approved by the Chinese government. The China Center for Economic Research (CCER) at Peking University was founded in August 1994, as an experiment in new methods of research and education in China.
CCER brought together a group of well-trained scholars in the fields of economics and management, from China and around the world, to make contributions to education and research at Peking University, to foster economic reform and development in China, and to contribute to the development of modern economic and management theories.
