ISL International School of Languages, Montgomery County MD:
Located in Bethesda, in southern Montgomery County, Maryland (just north of Washington D.C.), ISL International School of Languages specializes in delivering Spanish language classes in the areas of Maryland, Washington DC, and Virginia. Courses include General Spanish at beginner to advanced levels, group lessons, private Spanish classes, Spanish for specific professions, and more. Classes can be taken at our campus, or at your chosen location. We also provide tutoring in French and English, with Italian and Mandarin classes available in 2014.
We have appropriately adopted a quote that we feel supports our philosophy as a company: "What we learn with pleasure, we never forget", by Alfred Mercier. We focus on expanding the knowledge of Spanish among adults and children, not only to close the existing communication gap between residents, but also to help those who have the need, will and desire to communicate in different languages.
Our unique programs are designed for those who want to learn using practical, real life, day to day situations and scenarios. Classes are set up and led by our instructors to encourage participation and involvement from everyone. Apart from having lots of fun and meeting other great people, you will remember what you learn.

ISL International School of Languages makes learning Spanish fun!"
- Nan, Spanish student, Adult group classes (Chevy Chase, MD)
"Our instructor is an intelligent, enthusiastic, well prepared and effective teacher and I feel confident that I have gained a solid knowledge for basic Spanish over the last two months (and will continue to do so going forward). He not only covers the topics in the book, but also brings to bear related knowledge to help round out the experience. He also knows how to make sure that everyone in the class stays involved. I have been sharing my experiences with family and friends alike, so that they can understand that I'm having a positive learning experience with the ISL International School of Languages curriculum"
- John, student of Spanish, private lessons (Bethesda, MD)
How do I determine what is my level of Spanish and what class to join?
You can check your level by taking the “Proficiency Test”. This will help you to have a better idea of what your level is. However, our classes are mostly conversational and many times your grammar and writing skills are different from your oral skills. The best way to find out if the class is right for you is by attending the class. You can attend the class to make sure that is the right fit for you and there is no obligation to you if you are not happy with the level. You can just try our classes until you find the right one for you.
Will I actually be able to learn Spanish, since I will only be in class once a week and how long will it take?
While we have some estimated times and ideas according to our curriculum, learning a second language takes time. Be patient! Learning a language is not a question of several days. It depends on factors like:
1. Age - the younger you are when you start, the better.
2. Aptitude for language - some people are just better at language than others.
3. Effort you put into learning - if you practice every day you'll learn and remember a lot more than someone who goes to class once a week but never practices outside of class. The language will gradually become clearer in your brain, but this will happen on a schedule that you cannot control.
So sit back and enjoy…
Just make sure you spend enough time with the language. That is the greatest guarantee of success!
