The Valentin Yotkov Studio in Brooklyn, New York City is one of the only schools in the USA that specializes in chasing/repousse instruction. Our studio offers weekly classes, intensive workshops, as well as private tutoring. Valentin also teaches at other schools in the US and abroad. We are open year round, and all levels are welcome.

About Valentin Yotko:
All classes and workshops taught exclusively by Master Silversmith Valentin Yotkov. Valentin also teaches workshops at other schools in the United States and Europe. Please contact us if you wish to have him teach at your school or country.
Chasing and Repoussé - The Process:
Step one: The strip of gold is placed in a pitch bowl and the design is chased on the front of the piece using straight and curved liners.
Step two: The piece is then placed facedown and the relief is raised from the back of the metal using punches of different shapes and sizes.
Step three: After raising the relief, the metal is annealed and put face up in the pitch for final chasing.
Step four: The bracelet is shaped over a mandrel and the bezels are soldered on. The height of each bezel is adjusted by sanding the top.

The Zeira Insitute is a jewelry making & design school in the heart of the Jewelry / Diamond District of New York City. Located on 47th Street just off 5th Ave, this prestigious mid-town Manhattan location is very convenient for our students.We offer jewelry design and jewelry making classes to beginners and advanced students. We limit the class size to just five students per class. This ensures personal and immediate attention for each participant. Classes are held in three hour sessions twice daily. Students are required to own some personal tools while the school has tools to share as well.
Once the teacher assesses the level of the student the student can choose a project that he/she would like to do. According to their level, the teacher will guide them along. You will learn how to plan the design of a piece, draw it, and perfect the process of executing it through either carving wax or fabricating metal.

Conveniently located on West 8th Street in Lower Manhattan, between Sixth Avenue and Fifth Avenue, The New York Studio School of Drawing, Painting & Sculpture offers a range of art programs to adults and students, including a Master of Fine Art (MFA) and Certificate Program in Fine Art which mirrors the Masters Degree.
