International School of Berne Study Abroad:
The International School of Berne is an international day school providing an English language education for children of over 40 nationalities. Our school year extends from August until June, and we now offer a semester or year-long homestay study abroad program for high school students ages 14 to 19 (Grades 8 - 12). Study abroad students will become extended members of the families of IS Berne students or other local Swiss families, (with English, French and German language immersion benefits). The nearby Bern-Belp Airport receives flights from many major European cities, and Zurich International Airport is approximately 1 hour away by car/bus.
Semester / Year-long Homestay Study Abroad Program for students ages 14 - 19 (Grades 8 - 12)
Do you want to experience life in Switzerland? Go on weekly ski trips to the Swiss Alps? Or have class excursions to the Globe Theatre in London or CERN in Geneva? Celebrating 50 years serving the expat and diplomatic community in Switzerland’s capital, the International School of Berne now offers a homestay study abroad programme for high school students ages 14 to 19. During your semester or year, you will become an extended member of your local host family. You can choose to live with an English speaking family, or do a French or German language homestay immersion.
A limited number of spaces have been extended to select, qualifying students worldwide. With enrollment beginning in August 2012, the programme is an exclusive, innovative and premier study abroad option in Switzerland. Students attend classes full-time at the ISBerne campus in the village of Gümligen, a short distance from the heart of Berne, a UNESCO World Heritage City.

It gives students access to activities that cannot normally be offered within the framework of the curriculum and offers them challenging, new experiences to enrich their time at ISBerne. ISBerne offers a broad range of activities to meet the differing needs of the students, such as: theatre club, Model United Nations, student councils, eco club, languages, art club, board games, and much more. Sports include basketball and volleyball, soccer and swimming. Sports teams regularly participate in SGIS sports tournaments.
On every Friday of the winter season, students take part in the Ski Days programme. The school charters a train that travels directly to the Zweisimmen resort, where students spend the day learning to ski from a certified Swiss ski instructor.
