Early Childhood Education Programs:

Toddlers:

Entry level age for toddlers is 2 years of age. At this level, our staff's main goal for the children is proper socialization, increased awareness of fine motor skills, shape and color recognition, and basic problem solving. We make every effort to help the toddler find their own independence and let them develop at their own pace. This early learning process is made to be safe and fun and allows the child to explore their nPhoto of Montessori School in Albuquerque NMew expanding world.

At this age, our children do nap during the day, and weather permitting, enjoy the outdoors with several visits to the toddler playground. Our staff is also trained to assist your child complete the process of potty training. We believe in ongoing communication with the home, and our teachers are available to discuss any concerns there may be.

Early Pre-K:

As a result of our many years of observations of 2 and 3 year old children, we created our Early Pre-k classroom in 2001. We noticed that after developing all of their early toddler skills, the 3 year old child, if left in the 2 year old Toddler room would emotionally and often educationally regress back to their earlier 2 year level.

Therefore, for the continuing social and educational development of your child, we proudly offer you our Early Pre-K classroom, which will continue all of the skills that your child has been developing as a Toddler. Advancement to our Pre-k program will follow an evaluation to confirm that these early skills are Firmly in Place.

Pre-Kindergarten:
The 4 year old room is such an important level of development in the life of your child. At this age, the focus on life skills and socialization is critImage of Montessori School in Albuquerque NMical. It is at this time in a child's life that he or she begins to explore relationships that are outside of their immediate family. Friendships with other children develop and these social skills learned will last a lifetime. Of course academics are an important factor at this age also, and some of the skills learned include:

* Advanced counting and recognition of number sequences
* Language and speech skills are improved with an emphasis on proper phonetic pronunciation of complex word sounds.
* Introduction to music and Spanish
* Arts and crafts, coloring and drawing
* Hygiene, dressing skills and safety will all become important new skills.

Kindergarten:
At Sandia Montessori School we are proud to give children an opportunity to be in an environment where there are no limits. In this level your child will be able to:

* Develop and expand their language skills which include reading, and the development of their ability for comprehension.
* Expand their ability for counting and the use of addition and subtraction. They will begin to understand fractions and learn to write in equation form.
* Develop an understanding for basic science and earth science.
* Continue and develop all life skills, such as tying laces and holing small buttons.

At the end of the Kindergarten year your child will be able to read, write in paragraph form, and be introduced to basic mathematics concepts. At this point your child is ready to enter our elementary room.

Elementary:
At this level, the true Montessori technique and procedures really begin to take hold. Strength in phonics and language skills come to the forefront. This is the heart of the Montessori method which will allow the student develop and reach their full potential. Math, language skills, reading and writing will all be emphasizedPhotos of Sandia Montessori School, Albuquerque so that the student may advance with total confidence in their ability. The students social setting is enhanced which allows the children to develop relationships and friendships which are essential for future growth. Based in New Mexico, our Summer Expeditions range from 2-6 weeks, and are for kids ages 10-19. No expertise is needed to join, just a sense of adventure and a desire to learn about the animals, art, and unique culture of the Southwest.

We have been leading wilderness expeditions in the Southwest since 1926. Our groups visit different ecosystems of the Four Corners states: New Mexico, Arizona, Utah, and Colorado — red rock canyons, high desert mesas and alpine ranges — to play and explore.
