About Us:

Our faculty challenges each boy to reach beyond his current level of performance and expectation to discover his potential. We develop character by nurturing qualities such as integrity, courage, perseverance and empathy. The average class size is eight and the average student load per teacher is 40. This allows teachers to give personalized attention and individualize teaching materials for their classes.

Blue Ridge School understands that boys learn differently from girls, and the School uses a Learning Model designed specifically for boys. Social activities, the arts, clubs, community service and athletics are valuable vehicles for the development of young men. Blue Ridge School offers a number of different co-curricular programs that build self-esteem and develop leadership and teamwork skills.

Accreditation:

Our school is accredited by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools and the Virginia Association of Independent Schools. We are also members of the National Association of Independent Schools, Small Boarding School Association, The Association of Boarding Schools and National Business Officers Association.

Our Values:
Blue Ridge School has been built upon the values of integrity, civility and a strong sense of work ethic. Our code of conduct is unique in the way that it is written for both our students and the adult members of our community. Additionally our code incorporates the concept of Brothers' Keeper - promoting a peer culture of responsibility and obligation to each other.

Our Mission:
We specifically focus on helping boys reach their potential through personalized, structured, innovative learning practices in a college preparatory, all-boarding community.

Boarding School Programs for Grades 9-12:

- College preparatory curriculum.

- Subjects include:  English, Foreign Languages, Mathematics, Fine Arts, Science, Social Studies, SAT / ACT Prep, ESL and Outdoor Curriculum.

- We strive to make our boarding campus a "home away from home."

Residence Life:
Blue Ridge School seeks to create a home away from home for our boys. Residential life is the centerpiece around which every other aspect of the Blue Ridge experience revolves. Caring committed teachers serve as Hall Parents on the dorms, and offer students guidance and friendship.

Hall parents are assisted in creating a family environment by junior and senior Proctors and Prefects. Proctor and Prefects are voted by faculty and peers. These boys serve as “older brothers” to the students on their hall.

Parent Testimonial:

“I wanted to take a minute to thank you and your staff. It has been one year since we decided to make a change in schools and I cannot begin to tell you the incredible difference that I see in that young man that is my son. The comparison of night and day doesn't do it justice!

As I spoke to the boys yesterday at Career Day, I was amazed at how much the boys have matured in just one year at Blue Ridge. I had three sessions of seven boys each, and l knew two or more in each session…boys I had seen going back to early as last fall. The words that come to mind are development and character. Clearly these boys have a "moral compass" and it shows. They are really going to shine when they interview with future employers! I just wanted to thank you and your staff for what Josh has become in one year.”
