Co-educational Day & Boarding Programs for Students Ages 14-19:
Our academic program combines what is best in the American High School and European educational traditions. Informed by the standards and performance outcomes of the International Baccalaureate (IB) Diploma Program, the 4 year program of studies leading to the American High School Diploma balances a broad exposure to the 6 major academic disciplines.

Major subject areas:
- English language and literature
- History
- Modern languages
- Mathematics (courses range from algebra to calculus honors),
- Science
- The Arts

The 39-week school year is divided into two semesters, with examinations at mid-term and end of year. All courses meet 4 times per week (3 x 45' plus 1 x 90' periods) and classes enrol 10 -18 students, permitting individual attention and personalized teacher-student interaction. Tutorials in specific subject areas and/or study skills are available upon request, and English as a Second Language support is provided for those students who need it.

In addition, non-credit sports and a service project are yearly requirements, while graduating seniors must submit a research paper and pass a computer proficiency test. Additionally, IB Diploma candidates are required to follow a Theory of Knowledge course in grades 11 through 12.

While 85% of upperclassmen are IB Diploma candidates, a limited number of Advanced Placement examinations are offered beyond the regular program requirements, primarily to accommodate the needs of visiting semester/year abroad students. A post-graduate cultural enrichment program is available as a boarding.

Rome International School
Courses / Programs
Located in the heart of Rome, Lazio, in central-western Italy, Rome International School is a private international school providing an international education for children in nursery to grade 13. RIS has chosen to link with what we believe is the most prestigious of all educational systems, the International Baccalaureate Organization (IBO). With this is mind we offer the early, primary, middle years and International Baccalaureate Diploma Program. Students may still follow the two year British National Curriculum GCSE course before taking the IB Diploma program.

Although we firmly consider ourselves an international school, we never forget the language and culture of our host country and appreciate that many of our families still require the guarantee of an excellent preparation for the Italian state exam at the end of Grade 9 (Terza media). For this reason, students receive ample time for Italian lessons in language. Non-Italian students will study and learn to appreciate the Italian language and culture through a parallel course of instruction with our IAL teacher. Students taking a third foreign language may have the opportunity to sit external exams in the secondary school.
