- Honors students are challenged with the opportunity to take dual-credit college courses (in a partnership with Hardin-Simmons University), as well as pre-AP/AP and honors courses.

- Those students with learning differences (ADD, ADHD, dyslexia, etc.) may qualify for placement in the Learning Skills Program, which offers one-on-one or group tutoring, re-teaching of subject material, verbalized testing, project assistance, and organizational skills instruction.

- Opportunities for credit recovery are available through our blended classroom environment and through San Marcos Online Academy.

- All boarding students benefit from attending evening study halls in the dormitory or a more intensive Structured Study Hall, where tutoring and close supervision is provided by degreed instructors.

- Progress reports or report cards are mailed out every 3 weeks to keep parents updated on their student's progress.

- Each year 95 percent or more of our graduates attend college following graduation.

These students are a diverse group, representing a variety of nationalities, several different U.S. states, and about 40 different cities across Texas.

Female boarding students in Grades 6-12 live in Elizabeth Kokernot (EK) Hall. Male boarding students in Grades 6-12 live in the Boys Dormitory.

San Marcos Academy’s Residential Life Program provides a nurturing, structured environment where students can develop the life skills required for independent living while also learning to become a contributing member of the school community as a whole.

The residence hall staff are guided by the philosophy of relational ministry. Residential staff provide adult supervision within the dormitory as well as assistance to students when required.

Turning Winds Academic Institute (TWAI)
Courses / Programs
Located in northwestern Montana, Turning Winds Academic Institute (TWAI) is an accredited, family-run, therapeutic boarding school for troubled teens (boys and girls) ages 13-18 from Louisiana and across the United States.

In our beautiful, peaceful, and safe location, we combine the benefits of a therapeutic boarding school, a wilderness program, and a residential treatment center (RTC).

TWAI has been serving struggling teens and their families since 2002, with an exceptional degree of success.

We provide an extremely high standard of therapeutic treatment to our students, and offer help for the following presenting issues: poor academic performance, behavioral problems, addictions, low self-worth, spectrum disorders, ADD/ADHD, and attachment disorders among others.

With a passion for helping young people in crisis, our clinical, educational, and operations staff are among the best in the country.

We are a small program (40 students) which means that we are able to provide a truly unique and customized approach for every student.

Typically our on site student to staff ratio is 5:1. The average stay at our residential treatment center is 12 months.

We create a customized program for each student that requires a minimum of 3 months. However, best results for lasting success are realized through 6+ months of treatment.

TWAI graduates average a 3.5 GPA. It is common for a student to complete 1.5 years of course work in 1 year.
Heartlight Ministries
Courses / Programs
Located in the beautiful Piney Woods region of East Texas just 2 hours east of Dallas, Heartlight is a co-educational Christian boarding school for troubled teens aged 13 to 18 in Texas, needing temporary removal from their homes due to teenage behavioral problems.

Both boys and girls are cared for in separate housing units, schooled, counseled and mentored 24/7. The Heartlight campus is on a 100 acre property, with modern log houses delivering a peaceful setting. Each troubled teen is involved in daily therapeutic programs administered by our Christian counselors and staff.

Heartlight has a high ratio of staff to residents, nearly a 1:1 ratio with up to 40 staff on campus for just 48 students. Students are under adult supervision at all times and are generally not free to roam the campus nor allowed to enter each other's homes. The average stay for young people at Heartlight is 9 to 12 months.

Heartlight is a non-denominational Christian ministry, and is not affiliated with any one church. Heartlight utilizes a Biblical counseling model that brings the message of Jesus Christ to the lives of residents in a non-threatening way.

Situated in Oklahoma City, The Oklahoma School of Science and Mathematics (OSSM) is a prestigious two-year residential high school (Grades 11 & 12) designed to educate academically gifted high school students in advanced mathematics and science.

OSSM was created through legislative action in 1983 and graduated its first class of 44 seniors from across the state in 1992. The school currently has 71 juniors, 63 seniors and an ultimate enrollment estimated at 300.

OSSM is located on a 32-acre campus in Oklahoma City, just south of the State capital and across from the medical and research facilities of the Oklahoma Health Center. Classes are held in Lincoln School, a renovated Oklahoma City public school, and students live in a residence hall that was completed in early 1998.

The Hockaday School in Dallas provides an outstanding college preparatory education for girls in Grades 8 through 12 (boarding) and Pre-K through 12 (day).
