Intercambio de Comunidades, Boulder:
Based in Boulder, Colorado, Intercambio de Comunidades is a nonprofit organization that works to end the isolation that many immigrants feel through English language education and cultural exchange. To achieve this, volunteers offer group and private ESL classes, computer training classes, financial literacy, business preparation and citizenship classes.
We offer the following classes:
English Classes:
Affordable classes for adult immigrants taught by volunteers at students' homes, nonprofit agencies, and public buildings. We offer group and private English lessons.
Over the past decade, Intercambio has worked hard to develop an effective and focused 12 book, 6-level ESL curriculum. The goal is to not only teach English, but also teach important skills for thriving in the community. In addition to English grammar and vocabulary, Intercambio's curriculm also teaches life skills, such as opening a checking account or writing a resume. Each term, students are encouraged to students on class field trips to places like the library, the bank, or the supermarket to increase practical communication skills and resource awareness.
Intercambio & Schools Together Program:
Currently operating in several schools in Boulder County, this program matches English-learning parents with native English-speaking parents.
Computer Classes:
Six-week sessions on topics in computer literacy, such as how to set up email accounts, how to navigate the internet, and how to use Excel.
Financial Literacy Course:
A six-week Financial Literacy Course that develops skills in managing money, opening bank accounts, interpreting financial information, and managing credit.
Business Preparation Classes:
A multi-week class taught by local business leaders which focuses on starting a business, obtaining loans, managing a successful business and leadership skills.
Citizenship Classes:
Intercambio collaborates with the Boulder Public Library, the Lafayette Library, and Casa de la Esperanza to offer citizenship classes to immigrants to help prepare them to take and pass the citizenship exam
