Developing good study skills in high school will prepare you for academic success in college. Learning how to effectively manage your time, how to prioritize your work and how to retain important information are skills that will be of huge benefit to you throughout your life. While you still have the support of your teachers in high school, you are expected to think for yourself and to take control of your learning. Whether you're a freshman or a senior, you can improve your study habits by making a few changes to your routine. Your academic success is entirely up to you!

Study Skills for High School Students:
- Manage your time wisely to get the maximum out of each day. Use planners, study plans and to-do lists to keep you on track.
- Develop self-discipline: Make sure you attend all classes and meet every deadline for assignments. Set aside time each day for review of your study material instead of last-minute cramming.
- Be as focused as possible in class and listen attentively. Ensure that if you don't understand something that you ask questions and clarify it.
- Develop your note-taking skills - make sure that you record the important points and don't try to take down every word. You might find that re-writing your notes every day while it's fresh in your mind helps you to retain the information. Alternatively, you could use flash cards, or index cards of different colors. Compare your notes to a classmates to ensure that you haven't left out any essential information.
- Learn to prioritize your work
- Develop your organizational skills - save yourself valuable time by keeping all of your study materials (laptop, books, notebooks, planner, calculator) in one place.
- Have a dedicated study area that is comfortable and free of distractions.
