CELTA - No Current Offering
The University of Cambridge Certificate in English Language Teaching to Adults (CELTA) is the most widely recognized certification in the world for ESL teacher training. It is a highly practical course that aims to give people with little or no previous training, the knowledge, awareness and skills to begin a career in the field of English language teaching. Kwantlen offers longer CELTA courses that allow trainee teachers more time to develop the knowledge, skills and awareness to begin their careers: choose from 5-week full time courses or 12-week part-time courses. The CELTA course at Kwantlen is unique in offering an online module that gives trainees hands-on experience with an online learning environment.

The course is highly practical and it focuses on teaching English to adult classes at beginner to upper intermediate levels. The course aims to:

- teach the principles of effective teaching
- provide a range of practical skills for teaching English to adult learners
- give hands-on teaching practice
- build confidence

There are five main units of learning:
- Learners and teachers, and the teaching and learning context
- Language analysis and awareness
- Language skills: reading, listening, speaking and writing
- Planning and resources for different contexts
- Developing teaching skills and professionalism
