English Language Teacher Training Programs:
Our English language teacher training courses include certificates in TESL (Teaching English as a Second Language), TESOL (Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages) and CELTA (Certificate in English Language Teaching to Adults), as well as a practical online initial teacher training program, the first online course that meets the IH stamp of approval.
We maintain a ratio of 6 trainees for every teacher trainer. Therefore, if we have 2 trainers on the course, the maximum number of trainees is 12. Groups take the seminar program together and split into smaller groups for teaching practice.
IHC (International House Certificate) in TESL:
Graduates from this course will have the necessary competencies to become successful ESL teachers. This is our core course, with integrated practicum (teaching practice).
The IHC is a well-rounded and holistic initial professional teaching qualification. The course also provides a solid foundation to continue learning and developing as a teacher.
- Full-time course
- 130 hours over 4 weeks, Monday to Friday
- Compulsory 2-day post course shadowing
- Minimum 10 hours of teaching and 10 hours observing

TESOL Foundation Course:
2 week / 35 hour course
An excellent mix of methodology and theory, this course is designed to help international students to prepare for the IHC TESL course offered by IH Vancouver.
Taught in small and interactive classes, this program provides a comprehensive overview of modern TESOL concepts.
10 Week ID TESOL - International Diploma in Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages:
The International Diploma in TESOL is a 10 week course designed as an extension to the IHC. The ID TESOL follows a modular approach. A typical program will follow this outline:
* TESOL Foundation Course (2 weeks)
* IH Certificate in TESL (4 weeks)
And (Optional): IH Vancouver Certificate for Young learners (2 weeks) (2 week optional practicum).
And / or (Optional): IH Course for the Cambridge ESOL Teaching Knowledge Test (TKT ) (2 weeks).
And / or (Optional): IH Certificate in Business English Teaching (2 weeks)
CELTA Certificate in English Language Teaching to Adults:
Full time intensive: 4-week course
Awarded by Cambridge ESOL, the CELTA is quite simply the most widely recognized English language teaching certificate.
It opens doors to good English language teaching jobs around the world. Employers regard the certificate highly as it is known to provide a strong basis from which to develop as a teacher of English.
The CELTA is an introductory course, originally designed for people with little or no previous English language teaching experience.
However, it is also beneficial for experienced teachers who have never attained a recognized teaching qualification.
IHC Online Teacher Training Program: 
A truly unique and practical online initial teacher training program. The first online course that meets the IH stamp of approval. The course requires a minimum 120 hours of input and 80 hours of homework.
The course is modular and is able to be completed in 12 to 36 weeks.The length of each course is predetermined and candidates must be able to access the online learning environment for the duration of the course.
There is no option to finish earlier or later. It is important to consider your own learning style and time constraints to ensure that you will be able to complete the course.
The number of hours or work per week will depend on the set length of the course.
* Online teacher training and help with assignments
* Be able to learn at your own pace
* 10 hours of teaching practice (6 hours assessed) for all candidates
* 10 hours observation of experienced teachers
What is the Difference Between TESL, TESOL, TEFL?
All of these are essentially the same:
* TESL (Teaching English as a Second Language):
This term refers to teaching English in countries such as Canada, the US, Australia, etc., where English is the common everyday language in the community.
* TEFL (Teaching English as a Foreign Language):
This term to teaching English in countries such as Korea, Spain, Brazil, etc., where English is not the common everyday language in the community.
* TESOL (Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages):
This is a newer, umbrella term that encompasses both English and non-English speaking countries.
