Located in Windsor, Ontario, St. Clair College provides an advanced diploma course in Diagnostic Medical Sonography through our Centre for Applied Health Sciences. This program is 2.5 years in duration and will prepare you for entry-to-practice as a General Diagnostic Medical Sonographer (Ultrasound Technologist) in settings including hospitals, clinical laboratories, and other health care facilities.
Advanced Diploma in Diagnostic Medical Sonography (2.5 years):
Course work includes sonographic physics, clinical application courses, sonographic identification of normal and abnormal anatomy, pathology, physiology, and patho-physiology of the pelvis, abdomen, and small parts of the adult, pediatric, and fetal patient, as well as comprehensive exam reviews. Simulation labs and clinical placement settings will expose the student to practical learning.
Semester 1: Introduction to Sonography; Human Anatomy & Physiology; Sonography Physics I; Cultural Diversity in Health & Illness; Medical Terminology; Professional Practice.
Semester 2: Sonographic Practices; Pelvic Sonography and Pathology; Abdominal Sonography and Pathology; Applied Health Science Statistics; Sectional Anatomy; Infection Prevention & Control.
Semester 3: Clinical Sonography I.
Semester 4: Ethics & Professionalism; Normal Obstetric Sonography; Sonography Physics II; High Resolution Imaging; Clinical Sonography II.
Semester 5: Pediatric Sonography; Introduction to Vascular Sonography; Interventional Sonography; Abnormal Obstetric Sonography; Clinical Sonography III.
Semester 6: Online General Education Elective; Comprehensive Physics Review; Clinical Sonography IV.
Semester 7: Comprehensive Abdonimal Review; Comprehensive OB/Gyn Review; Clinical Sonography V.
