NorQuest College, Edmonton:
Start an exciting new career in the rapidly-growing field of allied healthcare with NorQuest College in downtown Edmonton, Alberta. NorQuest College provides a Health Care Aide (HCA) certificate program. Licensed to deliver the Alberta Health and Wellness HCA provincial curriculum, our HCA program is available in a range of study modes: Full-time study (21 weeks), Part-time study (32 weeks), Distance learning (32 weeks) or Online learning (32 weeks). You can choose from fall, winter, and spring start dates.
Our Health Care Aide Program is available in a range of study modes:
- Full-time study: 21-24 weeks through face-to-face daytime classes. Fall, winter, and spring start dates.
- Part-time study: Available in downtown Alberta and Wetaskiwin, Stony Plain, Hinton, Drayton Valley, and select communities throughout Alberta, based on interest. With variable start dates, this course takes 32 weeks to complete, which includes two practicums local totalling 200 hours of instructor-supported clinical practice. The part-time program at the Downtown Edmonton campus takes place on Tues/Wed/Thurs evenings and every second Saturday.
- Distance learning: 32 weeks program for students from anywhere in the province. The course includes includes 2 practicums totalling 200 hours of instructor-supported clinical practice in a facility in your geographic location, with an assigned clinical mentor. Labs and workshops will be held at the downtown Edmonton campus, which may require students to travel. Attendance is mandatory.
- Online learning: 32-week self paced course study online that can be studied from anywhere in the province. Labs and workshops will be held at the downtown Edmonton campus, which may require students to travel. Attendance is mandatory. Instructor assistance is provided by email, with site visits, supervision, and evaluation done by a NorQuest instructor.
- The HCA Workplace Education option is offered throughout Alberta in partnership with continuing care and home care employers. Self-paced study is combined with tutoring and practice opportunities with your employer. With this option, you are able to combine work and school by studying at home and practising your skills at work. You have one year to complete the program.
