Hochschule für Kunst, Design und Populäre Musik Freiburg:
The hKDM was founded in 2011, when the two former independent institutions were merged into one, thereby creating a unique spot for creative and cultural education in Freiburg. The school is officially recognized and currently hosts four Bachelor programs of study:
• Fine Arts
• Integrated Design
• Popular Music/ International Program in Popular Music
• Applied Computer Science for Audiovisual Media
One of the educational principles at the university is a clear focus on interdisciplinary work. By encouraging our students to engage in interdisciplinary projects the school aims at improving their social skills, broadening their personal horizon and communicating an understanding for the various forms of creative art.
In order to prepare our students for their professional life, the school frequently organizes collaborations with external business partners and art galleries. This is essential not only for networking, but also to improve the students‘ skills in dealing with potential clients.
Each semester the hKDM welcomes students from all over the world. Furthermore the school engages frequently in international projects.
In July 2012 the hKDM was accepted in the ERASMUS program and is now officially qualified for hosting and international students. Currently we are initiating cooperations with partner universities from different countries.
The hKDM is located in the heart of Freiburg, one of the most vibrant and youthful cities in Germany. Both France and Switzerland are in close reach, which contributes to the cultural diversity within the area. Furthermore, the city is known for its almost Mediterranean climate, its high quality of life and its ecologically beneficial policy.
This photo shows the building of the hKDM faculty Popular Music. The building is one of three locations on the campus, all in close reach to one another.
The application process for the courses Fine Arts and Integrated Design consists of an admission test, which comprises three creative tasks and an artistic portfolio.
