English for Business Communication Courses
Levels: Intermediate to Advanced

Course structure: 2 x 12-week cycles

Each week focuses on a new theme. Students can choose to study in English for Business Communication from 2 – 24 weeks.

Course overview:
The English for Business Communication course at SELC is an English for Special Purposes course. It prepares students for working in English in a business environment and may also assist students planning to sit the Cambridge Business English Certificate (BEC) exams. It is suitable for students who wish to:

· Continue in their current job with improved English language skills
· Improve their chances of finding a job in the future by improving their English language communication
· Better understand the language of the business world
· Enhance their understanding of their first language Business studies
· Be introduced to Business English for the first time
· Prepare for the Cambridge Business English Certificate (BEC) exams

Students may also be interested in further study of Business in either their first language or in English. The SELC course provides Business students with academic pathways. Others will return to Business courses at colleges and universities in their own country. Many will return to their job to find that their English language skills have vastly improved.

The two 12 week topic-based programs caters for students at strong intermediate to advanced levels. Students use English in a wide variety of interesting, practical and authentic business contexts, which both engage and challenge them. Lessons are designed by the teachers utilising a variety of textbooks. Authentic materials are sourced from business journals, newspapers, the Internet and other forms of media. Teaching material is always up-to-date and relevant to the learners’ interests and needs.
The learners are also encouraged to contribute material from their own work context or area of study.

About the BEC Exams
Business English Certificate Higher (BEC Higher) - Advanced
A proficiency test of Business English for people who are already in business-oriented work or wish to pursue such a career. The exam consists of Reading, Writing, Listening and Speaking. Topics include marketing, production, financial services and general office work.

Business English Certificate Vantage (BEC Vantage) - Upper Intermediate
This is an examination of Reading, Writing, Listening and Speaking in an international business context. Students at a broad range of management and clerical levels as well as those with limited business experience should choose BEC Vantage.
