Programs:
PEAC School For Elite Athletes is a school for high performing athletes
- We offer the Ontario Curriculum for grades 6-12
- All courses offered and staff employed at PEAC are fully accredited
- Sports include but are not limited to hockey, freestyle skiing and snowboarding, soccer, squash and figure skating
- All PEAC curriculum is regulated and inspected by the Ontario Ministry of Education.
PEAC‘s belief in character development and education is based on the five-P philosophy:
* Participate as a leader, student, competitor, and active member of your community.
* Positive attitude towards yourself and others, and towards challenging situations.
* Promote sharing, integrity, modesty, and respect.
* Perseverance in school, sport, friendships, and achieving your goals.
* Pride in your work, your accomplishments, your health, your mind and yourself
The unique athletic, health-centered atmosphere at our school gives students a sense of pride and self-esteem. Our students understand themselves and their accomplishments which is reflected in their athletic achievements, physical strength, emotional satisfaction and mental perseverance. PEAC promotes the understanding that our students will be able to meet their goals only if the goals that they set are meaningful to them. Our staff are committed to helping our students set personal goals that will help them achieve the 5-P philosophy.
The class sizes at PEAC are kept small, with no more than 15 students per class. As a result, teachers are able to provide students with the instruction and feedback needed to ensure academic success. The school day is structured so that tutoring time is built into the daily schedule. Students also have access to online learning and are able to negotiate deadlines based on their athletic schedule. By providing flexibility in the way courses are delivered, students are able to keep up with their coursework, even while competing off-site.
Smartboards:
Our classrooms are equipped with smartboards. These boards look just like white dry-erase boards but they are connected to the teacher’s computers, dvd players, and the internet. Teachers can record their notes on the board just as they would on a conventional white board, but have the benefit of being able to digitize their notes for later viewing. Students can login to all of their teaches’ webpages and access lessons that were missed due to competition or illness without having to struggle to find the exact notes from the day they missed.
PEAC provides a unique university counselling program geared toward student-athletes. Students who attend have specific needs as many of them plan on pursuing sport in post-secondary school as scholarship recipients. Therefore, the PEAC guidance team provides students with feedback about the academic and athletic programs offered in a variety of universities across North America and the U.K. and assists students with the recruitment process.
The primary purpose of assessment and evaluation is to improve student learning. Information gathered through assessment helps teachers to determine students’ strengths and weaknesses in their achievement of the curriculum expectations in each course. This information also serves to guide teachers in adapting curriculum and instructional approaches to students’ needs and in assessing the overall effectiveness of programs and classroom practices.
At PEAC, students receive clear and detailed feedback on their progress throughout the school year. Students have opportunities to demonstrate their learning through a variety of assessment and evaluation tasks, including written assignments, oral presentations, tests and examinations. At PEAC, assessment and evaluation are based on the Ontario curriculum expectations and the achievement levels outlined by the Ministry curriculum documents.
