Adcote School for Girls, Shrewsbury:
Situated in Shrewsbury, in the West Midlands of England, Adcote School for Girls is an independent boarding and day school for girls. Founded in 1907, Adcote is the only 'purely girls' independent school in Shropshire, providing a Montessori nursery, junior and senior schools. The school has excellent full-time, weekly or occasional boarding facilities for girls aged 7 to 18. We also offer learning support, a gifted and talented programme as well as English language courses for international students.

Boarding & Day School Programmes for Girls Ages 0-18
Junior School:
Small classes ensure pupils receive the extra attention they need to develop their confidence and social skills. Work is individually prepared for each pupil, to ensure every child learns at her own pace.

In addition to academic subjects, girls are encouraged to participate in a wide variety of other activities from playing a musical instrument and ballet to sports including netball, gymnastics and swimming. The girls at Adcote receive well in excess of the recommended time for literacy and numeracy and enjoy a wide variety of educational visits. A broad and balanced curriculum is followed with the emphasis on creating a positive environment in which every girl can reach her full potential.

Senior School:
Achievement, confidence and happiness are central to the philosophy of Adcote, where girls are encouraged to reach their full potential. Small class sizes enable our dedicated teachers to deliver tailored learning for pupils of all academic abilities, including the highest. Individual help is available for any girls who require support with their studies or to help them overcome a specific learning difficulty.

A wide range of subjects are taught at Key Stage 3, which is reflected in the large number of options available at GCSE and in the Sixth Form. Both the Performing and Fine Arts form an integral part of life in and outside the curriculum, as do Art and Textiles. Sporting and cultural activities are also used to inspire initiative, ambition, responsibility and compassion.

PE, Personal, Social and Health Education (PSHE), information on careers and work experience are included as an important part of the core curriculum for all the girls. Work experience happens in Year 10 where girls are found a placement in the organisation of their choice in liaison with Connexions.

In the Lower Sixth the majority of girls study four subjects to AS level and usually continue with three subjects to A2 level the following year.

Sixth Form:
The Sixth Form is an important time, as further education is dependent on your AS and A2 results. At Adcote there are very small classes in the Sixth Form, which enables the teachers to work closely with the pupils and to be aware of the progress they are making. All the Staff are friendly and it is their priority to ensure that every pupil fulfils their true potential.

One of the main roles of a Sixth Former is to take on responsibility within the School through Prefect positions. We believe this has helped students to become more confident and independent. There is a strong link between pupils and Staff and this enhances the efficient running of the School. The responsibilities given help us to gain self-respect and develop personal skills.

Gifted and talented children also need support and encouragement to make progress at their pace. At Adcote provision for this is built into the curriculum. Skills in Critical Thinking and Psychology are developed alongside gifted and talented pupils from other local schools, leading to pupils taking AS qualifications several years early.
