Curtin English is part of Curtin University in Perth, Western Australia, and provides quality English language tuition and teacher training to overseas students preparing to enter undergraduate and post graduate courses at Curtin University. We are also an authorised Cambridge ESOL centre, offering CELTA (Certificate in English Language Teaching to Adults) courses. CELTA is for candidates who have little or no English language teaching experience. It may also be suitable for those with some experience but with little training.
CELTA (Certificate in English Language Teaching to Adults) is a Cambridge ESOL award. The syllabus and assessment critieria is set down by Cambridge ESOL and each accredited centre designs its programme around this syllabus document, which can be downloaded from the Cambridge ESOL website.
CELTA is for candidates who have little or no English language teaching experience. It may also be suitable for those with some experience but with little training. Well-established internationally, internally assessed and externally moderated, it is intensive and practical.
Our programme has evolved and developed over more than ten years. Our trainers have more than 20 years accumulative experience of delivering CELTA, and we pride ourselves on the caring and supportive environment we create when conducting this rewarding, challenging and demanding course .
Successful Curtin English CELTA graduates receive a certificate from Cambridge and a report from Curtin English, part of Curtin University, which is recognised as a leading education provider in the international arena.
The reflective and analytical approach to teaching practice is one of the many strengths of the CELTA course. CELTA trainees complete six hous of teaching practice spread over the duration of the course. We offer free classes for the purposes of teaching practice.
Many of the learners who come along have no other access to English language tutition. They enjoy the lessons and are very supportive and appreciative of their teachers, who they know are learning too!
The classes are also a wonderful place for them to meet new friends and the end of course party that we organise by way of a thank you to our TP students is a highlight for all course participants- trainee teachers and students alike.
