International House Madrid:
International House Madrid (IH Madrid) in Spain offers a range of TEFL / TESOL teacher training qualifications for students from all over the world. We offer a Cambridge CELTA (Certificate in English Language Teaching to Adults) course, a Cambridge DELTA (Diploma in English Language Teaching to Adults) course and a Young Learner Certificate course for students who wish to teach English as a second language to children and teenagers. IH Madrid has over 20 years of experience in ESL teacher training.
- CELTA (Certificate in English Language Teaching to Adults) course:
The CELTA course is intended for those without previous experience who wish to enter the profession and for teachers with no previous training in this field. Success in the Certificate has enabled many candidates to obtain their first teaching position: the course is highly regarded by employers as providing sound initial training and a strong basis from which to develop as a teacher of English.
- DELTA (Diploma in English Language Teaching to Adults) course:
Cambridge ESOL has introduced a revised DELTA syllabus comprising three modules; Module One focuses on the background to teaching and learning; Module Two focuses on developing professional practice; Module Three focuses on a specialist option (e.g. Young Learners, ESP, 1-1).
- Young Learner Certificate course:
This course is designed for teachers who have either limited experience of teaching young learners or need to develop their current skills to teaching different ages or levels of children in different situations.
The University of Cambridge Local Examinations Syndicate (UCLES) 'Syllabus and Assessment Guidelines' stipulate that a candidate will normally:
- have a first degree
- have some formal training in ELT
- have a minimum of two years full-time (1200 hours) teaching experience of ELT to adults within the last five years
- have a range of teaching experience involving work in different teaching contexts and experience of teaching learners at different levels
- have a level of awareness and competence in English sufficient to complete all components of the course
- be at least 21 years old
DELTA Selection Procedure:
Selection of candidates is based on the completion of the application form, pre-interview tasks, formal written task and an interview. Interviews are conducted at International House Madrid or by telephone. Acceptance on the course is by no means automatic: a rigorous selection process is undertaken in the interest of candidates in order to ensure their suitability and a high degree of success on the course. Acceptance is at the discretion of the centre.
International House can help you with accommodation. We can organise a variety of different accommodation types. Most candidates choose to live in shared flat within walking distance of the school. Others opt for living with a Spanish family which allows them to practise their Spanish.
