Fast Arcade / Reaction Time Game - ReflexION

Rating: 6.7/10 - 34 votes

ReflexION is an intense, neon-themed breakout / ball & paddle game for kids and nostalgic grownups that combines good defensive strategy with fast reactions and mouse control skills. Facing off against missile firing, space invader enemies, you must quickly maneuver your paddle around the game zone in order to protect your core / base area, and deflect and rebound the enemy missiles back at their sources.

Reasons to play this fast-paced, upgrade-based arcade game: Fans of classic retro arcade games such as Pong, Atari Breakout, Arkanoid should enjoy this fun, modernized take on the 1970s & 80s genre. Fans of tower and base defense games should also find ReflexION well worth the time. Each increasingly-challenging level requires 100% concentration, quick reflexes and reaction speed, and coordination skills as you attempt to protect the bottom of the game zone while using rebounded missiles to take out the enemy.

Strategy to win: Good hand-eye coordination and mouse control, and a cool head under pressure is essential as you attempt to use the momentum of your paddle against your enemies. A basic appreciation of angles and trajectory also comes into play as you use the contours of the game screen to perform ‘bank shots’ that take out your enemies from either side. Decision-making strategy is also an interesting factor toward your defense success as you decide which upgrades to select in between each level.

How to Play: A Flash-based, breakout arcade game for notebook, laptop and desktop PC / Mac (with certain browsers). The game's interface takes the form of a quirky, computerized document. When the game loads, click on the ‘New Game.exe’ icon. Then, click on the ‘Play.exe’ icon at the top of the game screen to go to the Level Select Screen (Don't worry about the unusual ‘.exe’ at the end of each option, this is just a quirky extra that the game developers added for effect. You are not actually opening new .exe files on your computer).

In each of the 10 progressively difficult levels, your goal is to survive the onslaught from the waves of missile firing enemies. These baddies approach from the top of the game screen, and try to fire circular white missiles past your paddle and into the ‘Red Zone’ at the bottom of the play area. At the beginning of each level, move your mouse cursor over the blue paddle to take control of it. From that moment, the paddle mimics the movement of your mouse cursor.

Each time an enemy missile reaches the Red Zone at the bottom of the game screen, your health percentage is reduced, usually by 5 or 10 percent depending on the strength of the enemy. If your Health percentage falls to 0, you must re-play the level by going back to Level Select at the bottom. In between levels, you have the opportunity to choose one upgrade.
