Just as in real-life tennis, you need to exhibit super-fast reactions, and a great desire and determination to win at all costs. Dazzle your opponent with punishing ground strokes, devastating Aces, luscious lobs, and demoralizing forward-smash volleys. You’ll need all of those types of shots in your locker if you want to reach the pinnacle! Ok Pro, the expectant crowd is ready and waiting for a world-class tennis exhibition, and you’re the big name they’ve paid their hard-earned dollars to see! Good luck out there on the clay, grass, and hard courts, and show 'em who's Boss!
How to Play: Before you can enter the highly prestigious ‘Yahoo Tournament’, you must first complete a preliminary round match which acts as an introduction / tutorial game. The controls are very simple; move your player around the court using your computer mouse cursor, and Left Click to swing your racket. The longer you hold down the left mouse button, the harder your swing (a power meter appears next to your player once you initiate the swing process). When you are serving (hitting first), you have to click once to toss the ball into the air, and click again to strike it.
For those unfamiliar with the rules of tennis, your goal is to land the ball over the net (in your opponent’s area of the court), and try to make sure your opponent is unable to return the ball in play. A player wins a ‘point’ either by making their opponent hit the ball into the net, by forcing their opponent to hit the ball ‘out’ of the court lines, or most satisfactorily - by making the ball to bounce past your opponent in the opposite side of the court.
The scoring system for tennis is a little complicated; a player has to win 4 points (15-30-40-game) to win a ‘game’. However, a game must be won by two clear points. For example, if the game score is 40-40 (aka ‘Deuce’), a player has to win two points in a row (advantage-game) to win that game. Each match in Yahoo tennis is the ‘best of’ 7 games, i.e. the first player to win 4 games is declared the winner. Enjoy the action!
